Guest guest
Subj: Please help eradicate School Mold Date: 9/21/2004 10:54:29 PM Pacific Daylight Time From: _SBRINCHMAN_ (mailto:SBRINCHMAN) To: _president@..._ (mailto:president@...) Dear President Bush, I am writing to you as a teacher disabled by mold in two of my recent schools. I have seen a coworker become sickened from mold and die recently, and have talked to many teachers around the country who have very serious lung and immune disorders from mold in their schools. Ventilation (26%) and Indoor Air Quality (18%) were described as " unsatisfactory " in a study of our nation's public schools in 1999 (US Dept. of Education). These sterile words do not convey the suffering and danger present when mold grows in schools. Our school buildings are made of materials that grow mold easily - especially when they are not maintained, which is most often the case. The energy efficient buildings are often the worst - they don't breathe and grow mold for a variety of reasons. We cannot teach and learn in moldy buildings - the sickening impact of molds takes its toll on all inside. We don't receive medical assistance readily as most doctors haven't received the training to even recognize that mold is a problem or is so prevalent in our schools. This is a crisis in American history - we can't allow these health problems to proliferate any further. We need your immediate action to provide immediate help and leadership for fast solutions, much as SARS and AIDS were handled. We don't want to wait 50 years, as with tobacco and asbestos. Our next generation is being attacked - by molds in so many of the schools. I know that your family experienced illness in the Governor's mansion in Texas - imagine that being never-ending and having to go there daily to work or school, with no remediation. That is what many in our nation's schools experience. We must strengthen America! We ask that you make this a number one priority and help our children and school staff by speaking out against moldy schools and providing the momentum to address this problem nationwide during your presidency, which I personally hope will be extended for another four years! I hope you will review our website, below, to learn more!
