Guest guest
Dr. A's office will email you all the info you will need for pre & post surgery. I'm from AZ but flew to San Diego to get there, I also was alone... the day I came home I woke up with a sore throat, a nice gift I got from the person behind me on the flight to San Diego... I was weak coming home and in Phoenix Airport the walkway to get out of the terminal was sloped up, so it was a chore getting past it but not to bad. My husband picked me up at the curb, I loaded my small carry-on rolling suitcase into the back seat & off we went. Before we got home we stopped at Lowe's, then went home to drop off my stuff and do our grocery shopping. Went to Costco, Fry's & then a quick stop at Walgreens to get some big bandages to put over the incision where the drainage tube was. I slept good that night, but that was because I was home in my own bed & with my husband, needless to say, I was pretty much back to normal. I was sore, but I figured the more I stayed active, the quicker I'd heal & the quicker the weight would come off. I began walking a half-mile then slowly went to a mile, now I usually walk 3 1/2 mi. a day and I had my surgery on Nov. 1, 2010. You have to listen to your body, when it says to take it easy, then do it, everybody is different. I was determined to make this work and had I driven to Mexicali, Dr. A said I could of went home a day early I was doing so well. Good luck to you. I have seen a lot of posts about the first 30 days being the hardest and that completely makes sense. I have basically two weeks off for the surgery, I should have ten days after returning home from Mexicali. I was just wondering what time frame people were able to return to work. Obviously I am going back on light duty not doing anything strenuous. I was also wondering when people were able to start working out, starting with cardio obviously then weight lifting later on? Also is there an actual document that has the post op diet on it. It would be nice to have that in hand to study before going for the surgery. Thank you for everyone who posts such great information on a daily basis on here.
Guest guest
Hi, Well, congratulations for making the choice to have the surgery. I felt good after a week and would have been able to return to work. But everyone is different, so 10 days should be really good for you. As far the diet, just follow the Atkins diet. before you go for surgery. It is a high protein, low carb diet will work well for you. Do the best you can with it. There will be times that you will morn the loss of some of the foods that you are going to be giving up and that is pretty normal too. As far as exercise they say do NOT lift anything over 50 pounds for at least 6 weeks. When you are there, they will give you all this information.. Just keep coming back and asking questions. You have made such an excellent choice. Dr. Aceves is wonderful along with his entire staff. This is a great place to come and ask questions. We are here to support and help you. You will be having all kinds of emotions and feeling over the next few months. That is OK and really NORMAL. Take care, Suzanne In a message dated 1/18/2011 4:34:57 P.M. Guest guest
Hi, Nina e-mailed everything you will need for the Post op diet. Having 10 days off when you get back should be fine. I retirned on a Saturday and took that entire week off and returned on Monday. I am still weak but it helps to get back into your routine. I have not started working out yet except for walking. I am still just so tired. > > I am officially scheduled for April 26th for the sleeve. I have seen a lot of posts about the first 30 days being the hardest and that completely makes sense. Guest guest
I think you will be fine. I had surgery on a Friday and the following Monday was really the last day I felt tired. I decided to take the week off just to make sure I was getting out and walking a lot, which I did. By the Monday night, I was walking over a mile and more after that. By the end of the week I felt like nothing had ever happened--except for those little surgery scars. Good luck! --Kathy > > > > I am officially scheduled for April 26th for the sleeve.
