Guest guest
Has anyone here done a person centered plan for their child in transition? It offers a unique way to " get everyone on the same page " and to focus on the persons needs and desires. We have a group here that does them specifically around future employment-- and they say age 14 is the perfect time to do it :-) M. If the " programs " they offer don't suit your child, you do NOT have to settle for them. My daughter has had a very unique transition plan, based on what her desires and needs are. We worked some of what they had available into her program and then they did some of what she needed. When they offered choices she did not care for (working in the cafeteria, when she told them she wanted to be an office worker) we have simply said " no thanks. " This has worked out very well for her. There is no reason why school cannot be creative or do something out of the established " programs " for your child if that is what is in their best interest. Challenge them to do the right thing when they need to be challenged! Cheryl in VA

Guest guest
How do I go about finding a person to be the facilatator for MAPS in my area. Never heard of anyone doing it in our area. Jackie, Mom to 16ds, 13, and Bradley
Guest guest
When we did one for it was done by the educational district that the school belongs to. But basically the sped teacher did alot of the work. You could ask at your school, his teachers should be able to find out about it, even if they have to ask teachers they know in other schools. I would never have thought of doing one since no one else ever mentioned it, until the sped teacher asked if we wanted to, this was the year following them having done one of another child who is autistic. now that we're in a different school we probably should do it again. :-) Joy ----- How do I go about finding a person to be the facilatator for MAPS in my area.
