,My name is Krista and I, too, am a straw addict!I will be a year out this month and I use straws religiously. I use one with my protein shake every morning! Can't drink it without it. I personally have never noticed a difference in "air intake" from using a straw vs. all the baby sips that you have to do all day long. I would have extra air, so I would try without the straw and had the same result. Now I rarely have a problem with it. Not sure if I subconciously changed the way I drank or if it is just the time and healing that have past.I also thought the extra air thing sounded funny. Another thing that caused extra air was sugar free gum which I have chewed for years and never "noticed" extra air, but I have learned this smaller stomach makes a difference! My big tummy could handle the extra air without me even noticing, but I'm aware

of it now! I still chew gum, what I feel isn't painful...but I am now aware of it and now "get" the whole extra air concept! Everyone is different and you will learn what works for you and what doesn't!Best of luck to you with your surgery!Sent from my iPhoneOn Jul 31, 2011, at 1:30 PM, "" <ldc62@...> wrote:

OK, so I'm addicted to straws. It doesn't matter what I'm drinking. I'm having my VGS this week and I'm wondering...can I still use a straw? I've always been told it puts more air in the stomach, but, of course, I've never noticed.

You are going to be OK. They give you a straw when you are in the hospital after your surgery--the next morning. So it looks like straws are OK. I wish you GREAT success with you up coming surgery. You are going to be just fine. You will love everyone--the doctors and the staff.

Hugs,

Suzanne
