Guest guest
I am home near Seattle tonight, the ride back to the airport was a little bumpy at first, took sooo long to get thru the border, but we all said we had been here for surgery and they got us thru. I slept on the plane, have had no problems with passing gas or having BM's...nice blue BM's from the dye. I am feeling very good tonight, I've had my moments with taking too big gulp instead of sips, but started on the protein isopruol drink when I got home, I heat it up in a mug and it goes down better...slowly. Some of the bandsters departed with us for the flight home and one of them needed to be on an early plane so we left at 7 am. We were able to go standby on the a much earlier plane so we were all set, we left Mark and Michele at the ticket counter as they were trying to get on an earlier flight too. The on bandster in the Van was having a headache, everyone else seemed to be doing OK. I have twinges of pain...but nothing that is a show stopper. I want to say how much I appreciated the nurse that I had yesterday, for offering me regular pain meds, Ativan at bedtime so I could relax, he's the nurse that had the sleeve about 3 weeks ago. He said he started to feel weak about a week after and the doctor told him he better be getting his protein down...he was only doing broth and juices, he said once he stated drinking the protein supplement (clear) he felt strong again. I saw all 3 doctors yesterday, Dr. Aceves, Dr. and Dr. Campos...and remember this is on a weekend. The care you receive is above and beyond my expectations and better than any state side hospital. If you go alone, just ask the people you arrive with to look in on you and they will come to your room and take you for walks, chat with you and generally look in on you...we all did that for each other and it does help. I worked a little at my work using my PC, my Sweetie also worked with laptop and the people in Chicago never knew he was over the border. The pen rose drain hole is still draining, it's a yellow serous, sometimes pink or bloody tinge...and this is normal. I expect that as I get rid of the rest of the gas that was pumped in during surgery, the better I will feel. Just a word of warning for smokers, there is no smoking, you really need to have quit smoking...and if you are addicted to coffee or diet coke, wean your self off of that...weeks before you come, not a few days before the surgery. You will do much better. Just an observation. From: Hoag <mankiller26>Subject: [Dr-Aceves-bandster s] I am here in Mexicali @groups. comDate: Wednesday, October 1, 2008, 8:33 PM I am here at Hotel Lucerna, there are 4 of us; Michele, Sharon, Sheridan and I, all are going to have the sleeve tomorrow. We've been out for the last supper, took our pre-opt broad spectrum antibiotic and we were all given a 2 mg Ativan to help us get a restful sleep tonight. The Internet connections are good, Verizon phone coverage is good too. Ernesto picked us up at the airport, it was an interesting ride to Mexico and they don't even stop at the border...you just drive over and you've crossed the border. Ernesto takes you directly to the hospital, you meet with a coordinator, get a chest x-rat and lab work, then you have a little group talk, hand over your payment. You get a packet to read, fill out forms, and sign the agreement for hospital surgery and that you understand the risks. This will be turned in tomorrow when Ernesto comes back to pick you up form the hotel at 7 am. We met with a doctor tonight at 7 pm, I say tonight because it is dark here at 6:30pm, I didn't catch the name of this doctor, but he went over diet, expectations, pain control and what will happen to us tomorrow. He did not tell us who was going first. After 10 pm we are NPO (nothing per os). Next correspondence will be post-op. Temp when we arrived: 107 F, now it's down to 97 F Buenos noches. Guest guest
I can't thank you enough for all the detail you included. I am scheduled for the sleeve on December 1 and am reading everything I can to prepare myself. Your comments about the quality of care and reassurance that the pain was manageable were invaluable. Thank you again so much for sharing! Guest guest
To Joyce and Suzanne, Thanks for praise for helping you make you own decision to have the surgery. I feel confident you have a very similar experience as I have, and thanks to all those who went before me and blogged so I can judge the quality of care to take this surgical risk and change the direction of my life and preventing cardiac and more arthritic issue in my future. Guest guest
Hi, I haven't had time to read everything you have written, but I have a question. If you have already answered it somewhere tell me and I will read it tonight. I am scheduled to be sleeved Nov. 22, I am worried about the plane ride home 7-8 hours long. Do I need to worry about this creating a leak? I am looking forward to reading about your progress. diane > > From: Hoag <mankiller26> > Subject: [Dr-Aceves-bandster s] I am here in Mexicali > @groups. com > Date: Wednesday, October 1, 2008, 8:33 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > I am here at Hotel Lucerna, there are 4 of us; Michele, Sharon, Sheridan and I, all are going to have the sleeve tomorrow. Guest guest
You can always ask for a wheel chair at the airport and a sky hop will push you to your gate. It makes things much nicer! Also, if you check in at the kiosk, you might be able to upgrade at a low cost to first class. Guest guest
Walking is good for you and I was not fatigued at the airport at all, they drop you off at your terminal. Don't worry about a leak, they make sure you don't have one before they d/c you.
