Sheri...Rapid weight loss does tend to cause gall stones. A long term low fat diet will do the same. When you eat fat your gallbladder tends to open and contract repeatedly, looks almost spasmotic. When you are on a low fat, low cholesterol diet your gallbladder does not have to work as hard and it doesn't open and close the way it usually does. The stuff in there tends to create stones. I've often wondered (not claiming anyone do this, I just wonder about it) if eating a high fat meal once a week would prevent gallstones in those losing weight quickly as it would cause the gallbladder to do its job and work by opening and closing again.

Anyway, yes... you sure can have gallbladder problems today if you did not 14 months ago. They can usually see some stones in an ultrasound. Might be worth getting it checked out. Could also be gastritis but that would be unlikely if you are taking Prilosec.

When it comes to abdominal pain it can be anything, but just your weight loss could certainly cause problems.Do you feel like you have lots of gas? Does the pain happen after a meal? Especially after eating something high fat? Does it go to your back between your shoulder blades? Gallbladder has so many places it can hurt.

I have been having these attacks again lately, usually about once a

Bipley? Anyone? I am going to see my doctor next Thursday so I will

Thanks for letting me whine.

I agree! I would MUCH rather be praying!!! I am

already having the " drop me to my knees " thing. It

sucks. This last one had residual pain that lasted

until today. Bleck.

So are you getting your galbladder removed? I guess

the attacks can cause pancreatitis, which can be

fatal.

Thansks, Bipley. That pretty much sounds like me!! I

am trying to be good until I can talk to my doctor on

MOnday. I have never had a low-fat diet, but I have

lost 34 pounds in 3 months (tomorrow!!!). I am trying

to avoid problematic foods (fat and dairy) and I am

wondering if the fizz in diet pepsi is a trigger?

Staying away from pop... I have not managed to avoid

caffeine, tho. It keeps finding me. :|

thanks for your insight!

The surgeon told me that 1 in 4 people who have wt. loss proceedures have gallbladder issues within a few months. I hear that the physicians who perform bypass and sleeves actually remove the gallbladder also. I had my gallbladder removed last Monday. I had been in the ER three times with abdominal/chest pain in one week. They finally did an ultrasound and found a hot gallbladder. They offered to send me home on antibiotics and do it as outpatient. My answer was, " get it out, I can live without it and I don't care to have anymore issues than I need". That was 6 days ago and I feel great. I had been soo tight that I couldn’t eat anything and the one thing that put me over the top was my Starbucks Mocha; if I couldn’t have that then fix the problem.

Doin great in Dallas!!

Hey Sheri

I had gallbladder surgery several years ago. the pain started out like gas in the night, i would start off by taking Alka Seltzer, that helped at first

I know you cant take Alka seltzer just telling my story, this went on for 6 months, finally one day i had no sleep and all night pain,,, under rib cage right side i believe, i started throwing up on my way to work, i went to the hospital and the did the ultrasound and low and behold lots of stones...

they put me on a very bland diet for 1 week and then did surgery, they said it was cause from Years of dieting, as bipley said the gall bladder has to work harder if there is no fat/bile to absorb. thus createing stones.

the surgery was very simple, especially after lapband surgery, and recovery time was simple.

i was back to work in 2 days.

Re: Gallbladder attacks?

Ouch, Jenni! I feel for you, definitely. I think

there is a component of gastritis with this. The

doctors put me on Prilosec last year for reflux, and

this is totally different. Same place (mid

epigastric), but definitely not the same feeling. It

sure is handy working at a hospital, even though I am

not in a clinical setting. Pretty much everyone has

said the same thing as you. I will call my doctor on

MOnday, and in the mean time I will avoid fatty food

and dairy products. I found some "gallbladder diet"

stuff online, but it is really expensive and if I can

do the same thing by cutting out fatty foods I think I

can handle that!

Thank you for your input!

No gallbladder surgery in my near future :) We just applied for health insurance, we haven't had any since June when we moved and changed jobs. I haven't wanted to see anyone for the pain until I know that we are covered again. I didn't realize the pancreatitis thing, UGH. Good luck and keep us posted on what happens with you :) Cyrena Re:

HI Annette!!!! Sounds like Dane is doing super!

That is a relief to hear that recovrey time is short.

I don't have a lot of sick time right now. I just got

over a case of hives that lasted a week and I'm

running a little low. I can do a couple of days,

though, if necessary.

So caffeine is an irritant? I suspected as much, even

though most of the stuff I read focuses on fat. Too

much, too little... What a pain. But I am with you,

Pamela. I managed to go 20 days without coffee during

postop, but I don't wish to do that again!!! I will

be so sad. :(

I saw a coffe mug at work that said " If it weren't for

coffee I would have no personality at all " .

Yeah. What the mug said!

Hi All, Boy oh boy, has the old gallbladder treatment, surgery and recovery changed over the years! I started having attacks less than a month after my oldest son was born and had surgery when he was 3 months old. I honestly thought that I was dying. I spent 8 days in the hospital and they removed the stiches a couple of weeks later. I bet ya that my scar is a whole lot bigger than your scar. This was March, 1968.Sheri Reeves <cooladdict@...> wrote: HI Annette!!!! Sounds like Dane is doing super! That is a relief to hear that recovrey time is short. I don't have a lot of sick time right now. I just gotover a case of hives that lasted a week and I'mrunning a little low. I can do a couple of days, though, if necessary. 0\] wrote:> Hey Sheri?? > I had gallbladder surgery several years ago.? the> pain started? out like gas in the night, i would> start off by taking Alka Seltzer,? that helped at> first > I know you cant take Alka seltzer? just telling my> story,? this went on for 6 months, finally one day i> had no sleep and all night pain,,, under rib cage> right side i believe,? i started throwing up on my> way to work,? i went to the hospital and the did
