Guest guest
Yes, gradually go off the Nexium. Don't go cold turkey. Take it every other day, then after a week or two every 3rd day. Do not take calcium carbonate products such as TUMS or Rolaids, take Gaviscon instead. Zantac is fine. You will find a decrease in stomach acid eventually. I'm on Nexium, which is the only one which worked for me initially, although I do find that Zantac or Prilosec will work now, although not for as long. The Nexium is SO expensive, and my deductible is big enough that I'm paying for it out of pocket, and am concerned about the long-term effects of taking any of them regularly. So far I'm 4 days out with no meds at all. Any hints for ideas to keep the heartburn at bay? Eating small frequent meals seems to help. Drinking milk seems to help, and going to sleep before it gets really bad at night helps, because when I wake up its gone. Any other hints of things I can do to convince my stomach that it can stop already with all this acid production?? Thanks, Danae
Guest guest
I have some Nexium that we bought in Mexico that I do not use if you would like to purchase it from me. I can mail it to you. I know this won't help you getting off of it but I am certain I will sell it for cheaper than wherever since its just sitting in my medicine cabinet. Let me know- email me straight to goldeneyemom918@... if you are interested. "Enjoy your body: use it every way you can. Guest guest
I read that most people with heartburn are really suffering from a LACK of stomach acid, not a surplus of it, which should definitely be true of sleevers. I came across this site and found that the vinegar treatment really helped me. I still take OTC meds occasionally because I forget to do my natural remedies, or don't feel like downing some vinegar, but it's at least worth a try in your case. In addition to the cure, there are foods that are more likely to cause heartburn, which you can choose to avoid. Alcohol Cheese Milk chocolate Anything with Caffeine Fried foods Potato chips Grapefruits and oranges Onions Tomatoes Peppermint Meat You probably want to eat more alkalizing foods and avoid acidifying foods: http://www.thewolfeclinic.com/articles/acid_alkaline_food_chart.html " People vary, but for most, the ideal diet is 75 percent alkalizing and 25 percent acidifying foods by volume. " The idea is that eating foods with live enzymes (raw fruits and veggies) help the digestion process over all. Most of us have damaged our natural gut flora (antibiotics are a quick way to do that). http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/acvinegar.html http://earthclinic.com/CURES/heartburn.html http://www.naturalremediesforbetterhealth.com/natural-heartburn-remedies.html http://www.myhomeremedies.com/topic.cgi?topicid=97 http://heartburn.about.com/od/medsremedies/a/homeremedies.htm Good luck! Guest guest
Hi yes, Ask your doctor for the generic Prilosec. I don't know how much you have to pay for a generic prescription from your insurance, but I get 90 days for about $7.00--I do Mail Order prescriptions and it cost a lot less. Then if I have a problem later on in the evening with Acid Refulx I buy the Acid Reducer --Costco brand, but you could get Wal-Mart too. I take it before I go to bed. It it takes care of any problems that I have 100% Ask your doctor about Prilosec prescription and the generic Priolsec. My doctor was happy to help me.
