I was considering having the LAP band done, but now I'm hearing about

this Gastric sleeve.. which makes me think maybe I should go that route

because I am concerned about the band slipping and what not.. My

question is this.. What is the price difference between the LAP band

and the sleeve... and what are the benefits/ and complications that can

occur with both.. If any of you have had both, I'd love to hear from

you.. =Hellen

Hi Hellen,

For me the sleeve was the best, and I didn't see any complications that I would have. I believe the lap band cost is $7,500 and I know my cost for the sleeve was $9,500. The band does have some on going after care as long as you have it. They do fills and unfills, and you will need to have a doctor in your area do those. They also charge between $200 and $300 to do the fills or unfills. Once the sleeve is done it is permanent and there is no after care. Go to Dr. Aceves's web site and read all the information they have on the web site about the costs and what you can expect. http://www.mexicolapband.com/index.php

You can also contact Nina at this site and she is excellent and will answer all your questions. I think you will find that 90% of the people are now having the sleeve done vs the lap band at this time.

Hi Helen,

Honestly if I were you I would consider the sleeve in the long run I believe it is much better. I had my surgery done on 10/21/08. I would stay away from the gastric bypass--now this are just my opinions, but I think you will find that different people have favorites, but I have never heard of anyone with any big problems from the sleeve. Nina is always pretty good about answering your questions try sending it to her again.

Thanks for always asking great questions.

If you don't mind my asking, how long ago did you have your surgery? I'm thinking that if it was recently enough the prices shouldn't have changed to much. I emailed the staff on the website and haven't heard back yet. How does the weight loss on the sleeve compare to the LAP band? I have heard that the results with the gastric bypass tend to be very quick and dramatic. I've met a few people that have had it done and had to go in and have some skin tucks done because of hanging skin. I was attracted to the LAP band because the weight loss is a bit more gradual and hanging skin doesn't seem to be the norm. I'm just hoping not to be tucking my belly sking into my belt... lol.. If anyone has any insight into this, I'd love to hear what you have to say on this. ~Hellen>> Hi Hellen,> > For me the sleeve was the best, and I didn't see any complications that I > would have.
