Guest guest
Hey Gail ! Nice hearing from you!! Well, it's 13 lbs in 6 days. Today I didn't loose anything.I think it's the sodium in the beef broth- even though I bought the lower sodium kind. That is how I am getting my protein in. There's 4 grams in every 8 ounces and I am trying to drink 3 quarts a day. I'll tell you, the protein supplements I have on hand taste very bad. The bullets are sickeningly sweet. I can't stand but a tiny bit mixed in a cold drink and then it takes the whole day to get through 2 of them. I tried to find Unjury protein powder in SuperSupplements, but they don't carry it. By the time I order it online and recieve it- it'll be time for Phase 2 of the diet and I won't really need it. I wish I could get my hands on some of the Unjury chicken flavored powder. I think it would not taste that bad in a chicken broth. Also I bought the wrong kind of vitamins- the ones I bought have iron, and iron can wreak havoc on your stomach lining. Good luck with your weight loss. I am not having any incision stretching from drinking ( yet ) I do have the runs a little bit, but not bad. Also, a little tired. I am so ready to move to the full liquid phase. How about you? Keep me posted. Loretta From: cjmshriver <cjmshriver (DOT) com>Subject: [Dr-Aceves-bandster s] Revision after banding @groups. comDate: Wednesday, July 2, 2008, 8:18 PM Hello,My name is Carla and I am Penny's daughter. (for those of you who know Penny).I was banded on August 3rd 2005 and went to Mexicali for a fill on June 26th. I have had a very difficult time with finding my sweet spot and have had numerous fills and unfills. When I got to Mexicali I decided that I was sick of messing with the fills and asked Dr. Campos if I could get the sleeve and low and behold he and Dr A. discussed it and on June 28th Dr. A. and his marvelous team of Doctors and nurses removed my band and gave me the sleeve. I feel wonderful and Dr. A. assures me that I came through the procedure beautifully. I loved my band to get the initial weight off but I just couldn't find my sweet spot. I gained back about 24 pounds because I had to have an unfill. So my total band loss was 72 pounds with 24 pounds back up. I know I will love my sleeve because it will be less hassle for me.Carla ShriverDOBand 8/3/05DO sleeve revision 6/28/08220/171/
Guest guest
Loretta it is me again ditto with the ready to be on the full liquid stage. I am so sick of Special K 2 O and chicken broth. I have not been getting all my protein in but I barely get 20 ounces of anything in because I have to take such small sips. I am not complaining and I think I will be fine for 10 days. with the amount I am taking. Guest guest
Hi, Is this the Carla that was getting revised to a sleeve this past week? How are you feeling? I made it home last night. All in all, surgery was painless. I seemed to have a lot more nausea than typical and am still struggling with taking anything than ice chips (Thanks a ton for the advice, Fredricka!!). Has anyone else struggled with keeping liquids down after the sleeve? I had the operation on Monday, its Friday now, and unless I suck on an ice cube, I am throwing it up. Im stocked up on the whey protein and isupure, but cant touch it yet. Any words of wisdom? Thanks! Guest guest
Hi , This is the girl from Vancouver Island, BC. I had the sleeve on Thursday with Dr. Aceves. I can't remember if we met or not but anyways.....throwing up is soooooooo NOT GOOD you should take the Nexus that was given to us all or get something else to stop the vomiting and you should be able to drink everything clear. I think if it doesn't stop to email the doctor or Nina or phone ...it is a 1 800 number ...no charge. You will get into complication trouble from throwing up this early when your stomach is so tender still. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for your message. I recall your name, but cant recall if we met. I was in such a daze the first 2 days L. I am finally not throwing up! I got home on Thursday, and by Saturday, no episodes at all!! I am sticking with the nexium (first thing in the am, with about ½ inch coffee cup of chicken broth to dissolve, and then am drinking one protein whey from GNC over ice. It takes about 3 hours to get it down (and its 3.1 oz plus the ice I continue to add to it J And then water, and that’s pretty much it. As of today, Ive lost one pound?!? I cant figure that out. The amount of stomach Dr. Campos removed had of have been at least 20 lbs J or at least 3. Any ideas? Good news is I do have a ton of energy.I am waking up by 5am every morning and keeping busy throughout the day with housework, shopping, etc, just no heavy lifting. My leg muscles are actually sore today from all I did yesterday. Anyhoot, just wanted to let you know I was doing better and to see if anyone has had these problems with the weight not coming off right after the sleeve. Guest guest
Hey Loretta! How is the weight loss coming along? Are you in the 180s now? I am and it feels so good to get this weight off! I keep pinching myself to make sure it is all real! As for , most people commented on how they were sorry that he experienced that. Additionally, many people also told him that they would still support him because that is what we are here for. However, if there is error in one of his comments or it was so different than what others had seen or experienced, they made sure to give their opinion too. There is nothing wrong with giving an opinion. We all had a few things in our experience that weren't perfect. But it didn't color the whole process or experience. I would rather concentrate on the good and not the bad and feel successful. I do wish all the success and happiness with his sleeve! But I also believe that others have the right to agree or disagree - but keep it light. I certainly appologize if my comments were not as gentle as I wanted them to be....but I also want to make sure that no matter what, we can support each other in the weight loss! Hope you are doing great! 'Thank God" I have a 3 month contract and I am 1 month into it. I have to work for the weight loss now. The honeymoon is over. The machines are pretty high tech. You can plug your age and weight into it and it speeds up and inclines to keep you at a target heart rate. One day last week I was feeling a little run down, so I plugged my weight in at 300 lbs and my age at 90 years old. That way it wasn't so hard on me. Ha Ha !!!! Yeah I know, I'm just kidding myself. I can't believe your in the '80's. WOW !!! You must feel thin. Is losing still easy for you? You must be down to a 16 now. Are you buying off the regular rack? That must be a great feeling. Guest guest
Loretta: I can wear an XL in tops from Wal-Mart- since T-shirts are only $6.00 - I can afford a few new ones - you know how they run smaller than the women's plus shops - and a Large (in stretchy denim pants - although they are getting looser!) in pants. So, I haven't been in the regular department in so many years! It feels good just to shop in the regular department and get cuter clothes. Although, I will be happier when I am smaller too! I haven't really exercised....I know, I have been bad...but it seems I am always on the go and have to use the equipment at work. Yes, the weight loss has slowed....but I still love the effects of the sleeve and the no hunger. I still have problems with sugar.....if I take my chromium picolinate....my blood sugar remains normal. However, if I forget it, then I crave sugar during the later part of the day. I bought some candy yesterday when I was at Wal-Mart - Good N Plenty, etc. I brought it home and ate some and then realized..."Why am I doing this to myself?" So, I threw them out in the trash and felt better! I am thrilled that you are doing so much better! Guest guest
Loretta....Since when is saying someone else didn't have the same experience mean that he has to keep defending himself? Honestly, I think you are making a huge issue out of nothing. I don't believe he angered anyone, people said they didn't have the same experience. So what? What's the big deal? I think he was under the impression we do things differently in the US. We don't, we don't throw bandages and tape in a red bag, we use the garbage, just like in MX. Many of his complaints were assumptions that things are done differently here than in MX and as a nurse, they just aren't. has every right to complain about his experiences but let's not forget, we have every right to say we didn't have a similar experience. I don't see what the problem is here. On Mon, Nov 3, 2008 at 4:20 PM, Loretta <lorettaj1951@...> wrote: Gail, My response about must have gotten posted. Guest guest
Gail, I hear the happiness in your voice. I know, wearing an extra large seems so small when we are used to having to go to 2x and 3x sizes. And a large in pants !! You go !! I was eyeing up the petite department in Macys and wondering if after losing another 20 that I might be able to get into a petite large. They really have cute stuff - kind of expensive though. I tried on an old pair of jeans I had from years ago. They are a size 16. I got them up over my butt, but couldn't zipper them, but I was thrilled that I got them that far up. Pretty soon !! I hate getting down on a mat and doing exercises. If I didn't have the trainer-I wouldn't last through 3 or 4 reps on most of them. They stand over you and won't let you quit. I want to keep losing around 2 lbs a week so I am suffering through this. I was down to losing about a lb a week w/o any exercise. As far as sweets go, I like those Dreyer's fruit bars. They're 80 calories but not sugar-free. I have totally given up cola's and don't have the same craving for chocolates like I used to. I do like a chocolate chip cookie or 3 now and then. But since you can't wash down the cookies with milk-it isn't that enjoyable anynmore. Take care . Guest guest
Hey Loretta! I love Macy's....but haven't wanted to spend money on nicer clothing because of the constant fluctuations in size. I just got rid of four big bags of clothing. All of the big sizes are not longer in my closet! I don't want to go back to those ever again! I have not spent much on clothing....and although I loved s, I can no longer shop there. So, I have paid off my credit card and can shred that one! Yippee! I am so glad that you have done so well! I am so proud of you! I know you have to feel so much better even though your drill sergeant keeps you hopping at the gym! I did go to Costco and got the Flexees underwear there....I had to throw out the old ones that were too big....although I do love those granny panties! Costco also had some spandex camisoles that feel really good! They can go over your bra or you can also pull the bra part below your boobs and they kind of hike them up higher! Yes, an instant boob lift! So, I am wearing that camisole under my T-Shirts and it feels good on my back and stomach and holds me in....and makes the rolls under my bra less noticable! Anyway, it is such a wonderful re-discovery of things I had forgotten I could do 11 years ago! Keep in touch! I want to know how you are doing! Most of the time people would spend paragraphs suggesting he didn't experience what he said he experienced, or blaming him for not being more assertive. So he got a few issues he had problems with out in the open-why is that such a problem? He thought he was joining a support group when he signed up here. He probably didn't know that if he didn't have the same glowing review, that he be skewered. He ended with saying he was glad he had the surgery ,he is losing weight. Oh and BTW if a health care worker doesn't wear gloves when they draw blood it's their problem, but if they don't wear gloves when doing dressing changes etc.bacteria on their hands can be transferred to the patient. They also need to wearing gloves when they give you IV medication and they need to wipe the port of the IV with alcolhol so they don't introduce bacteria into your bloodstream. Guest guest
I don't believe I'm making a huge issue out of anything. As a matter of fact, I'd almost forgotten about good ole , so I read his post again. He reminds me of the type of patient that watches and keeps a journal of everything that happens. He must have been afraid when he was vomitting blood and he felt they were blowing him off when he told them that. I find that hard to believe, because when I felt like vomitting and reported it, I got meds immediately. I also feel bad for him that he felt neglected, especially after he said he was having such a hard time. I am not agreeing with him. I was putting myself in his shoes and thinking " it would suck to be him " I am not going to go into everything he complained about. His post was not very good PR. He sounded angry and really expressed it here. Im a little surprised that it even got posted. Gail, My response about must have gotten posted. He's been gone for a week and people are still opining. I believe he unsubscribed after having to keep defending his statement. Things were not hunky dory, peachy keen for him. I'm sure he got over it, and I'm sure he did not intend to anger so many people. My weight is around 190. I'm down a good 60 lbs. I got a personal trainer ( I call her Jillian) from "biggest loser" She weighs about 3 lbs soak and wet. She is crucifying me into fitness and the best thing about working out is when it's over. I'm almost there, but I can still wear a 1X if it;s made small. Thanks for the reply. Loretta
Guest guest
Loretta...I'm not sure why you are surprised that his post was posted. Nina is pretty open and this board isn't about PR, it's about support and sharing information. I think it says a great deal that she does let posts like 's through. Dr. Aceves has nothing to hide and the fact that all posts good or bad are put through says a great deal about Nina and Dr. Aceves. Nina told me that the posts that are not put through are when kids go through egroups looking for people to tease and make fun of. THAT is why the board is moderated, not to hide negative opinions. I'm not going to go into each complaint specifically because #1) We already did that, #2) I still think he was assuming things are done differently in the US vs. how these procedures are actually done. They are done the same in Mexicali as the US and I believe he simply was not aware of that. All in all if Nina did not put the negative posts through, I probably wouldn't stick around. This board isn't about PR, it's about all of us sharing information and frustrations as well as victories.
