Guest guest
What band do you have? If you have a VG band just 1/2 cc each time is CRAZY. My first fill was 4cc in my VG band and that only gave me a small amount of restriction as a lot of that simply filled the tube. I now have 9cc in my VG and have good restriction. You could either request more at your fills (1cc would be better at a time) or go to another surgeon! Sometimes being a loser is a GOOD thing! 5'11 " 306 / 229 / 180 PreOp / Now/ Goal Banded 09/14/06 @...: ginnee25@...: Sun, 14 Oct 2007 23:33:04 +0000Subject: Fills Hello, this is my first post. You're not the doctor and you have NO idea how much you need. Even if this doc is slower on fills than some, stick with it. Your goals are unrealistic. Average is 1--2 pounds a week, and losing more than 2 a week is unhealthy. You didn't put the fat on overnight, did you? How much do you weigh, how tall, bmi, etc? And age? All of that makes a big difference. Even if you don't have good restriction yet, practice eating like a bandster. Do so and you'll lose. And what about your exercise? dan
Guest guest
Hi Ginny. My name is . I was banded 7/24 had first fill 8/24 - 2nd fill 9/17 and am getting my third fill today 10/15 Let me say I am NOT as optimal restriction. Most of my weight loss has been on my own (ie I stop at 1 to 1 1/2 cups of food per meal) I lost 10 pounds prior to surgery approx 30 pounds in first 2 weeks and 12 pounds over the last 2 months That sounds like awesome weight loss however, for the past 6 weeks I have lost an average of 1 pound per week (4 pounds per month). My weight loss has slowed considerable. And of course these are only the losses - lots of times I GAINED. Think of it as a traditional scale where the left side goes up as the right side goes down. The scale with facilate until it 'evens' out. That is how I understand the body works. The plateaus are the bodies way of 'balancing' out. Your weight loss is awesome too! The most important thing is patience. Be patient (I KNOW IT IS HARD - I AM WITH YOU) and follow the band rules you were given. You trusted your surgeon to operate - trust him to manage your fills. Talk to him about your concerns. Also, alot of weight loss depends on starting weight too. I started at 326 and am now 272. The larger you are the more 'initial' weight you lose. The number of cc's they fill - really means nothing. It is just a number - more important is that they fill you slowly so as not to cause complications. It takes many people 3-5 fills to get to decent restriction. I am shooting for 8-10 pounds per month. My surgeon recomends 1-2 pounds per week. 3 pounds per week is kinda unrealistic. Review what you are doing - analyze what you are eating and talk to your surgeon and dietician. Remember losing this weight is more than just numbers.....it is lifestyle changes and emotional/physcological evaluations. To lose weight and keep it off - we must first understand how we put it there. You are NOT alone. Yes you have to do the 'work' yourself...but we are all here for you. > > Hello, this is my first post. My name is Ginny. We all vary from day to day, and that's why, unless you graph it or in some other way look at the long term, will go crazy from daily weighing. Think of how all of us (and particularly women) change from day to day. Water retention. I can go up 3 pounds in a day from eating a bunch of salty food (even good salty food like beef jerky or a veggie stirfry). And then there's constipation and its alternative. Hey, I lost five pounds when I got a colonoscopy. Guess what, it came back. As to patience, most of us indeed are NOT patient. If we were, we wouldn't have been as likely to become obese. -- Best regards, Dan mailto:honu@...

" > Tell me what you do?? **** Hello Ginny. here. Well, we can't tell you what to do. But we can make suggestions. Being Banded is a unique journey for each of us. It can be dificult when your Band Dr. gives limited cc's for your fills. But, he must have a plan for his torture. LOL! As I said before, this is a unique journey for each of us. The Band sizes are similar but how our bodys react to them are quite different. I have encountered Bandster who have had no fills and are doing very well and others who have had countless fills and unfills and struggle to get to that so called 'Sweet Spot' of a fill for great restriction. The learning curve for each of us is different also. Changing bad habits for good habits can be a struggle. Keeping to the Bandster Guidelines can be a struggle. MY own example is that I have a VG band that can hold up to 11cc's. I am at 8.2cc now and have great restriction in the AM and moderate restriction till late afternoon. It is in the evenings that I have to control my myself with will power because I have the least restriction at that time. It is a gravity thing for me. The band seems to irritate my stomach when I move from laying down to standing in the AM and it takes most of the day for the inflamation to go down. Stress can cause more inflamation on the Band. Emotions also. And for you Ladys, that Monthly cycle is and additional pain in the Band. LOL! Sorry! Getting back to Band sizes, Do you know which Band was inplanted in you? 9.5cm? 10cm? 11cm? The 1st two can hold up to 4.5cc of fill but most of the Bandster get good restriction at 2.2cc -2.6cc. In the VG band(11cm), some start to feel restiction at 5cc. Several fellow Bandsters with the VG Band have 5.2cc, 5.7cc,7.9cc,and 8.5cc and have varying amounts of restriction. As i said, it is a unique journey for each of us. My suggestion to you is to follow your Band Dr's rules of a .5cc a month. Take that time between fills to live the Bandster guidelines, change bad habits for good habits, exercise 3-4 times a week fo 30-60 minutes, and believe in yourself. The Band is a tool. Learn to work the Band and then learn to use the Band. God Bless! Dr. Spiegel 05/17/2006 367/255/
Guest guest
Ginny //I understand he is the doctor and only wants me to lose 1.5 lbs a week but I dont think 2-3 lbs a week is an unrealistic goal either.// I have been losing 3lb a week for a little while now. but the only reason that happens is because I'm the calorie Nazi and I walk 10 miles a day. Went to see my doc today. guess what? he said to cut that crap out or I'll hurt myself (ok those weren't exactly his words but its what he meant) Since I've lost so much so fast, he wants me to take about 6 months to lose the next 10-20. I'm having a really hard time dealing with that concept, the idea of going so much slower kinda freaks me out, but I'm really don't want to hurt myself so I'm going to comply. Apparently you just don't get to lose more than 1-2lb per week, even then it should be 1 some weeks & 2 others (in other words 1.5lb/wk ). its just not healthy to go any faster, you'll end up losing lean mass instead of fat and screwing up you're organs. in the beginning, its not as much of an issue, but even if you make it happen, don't expect to be able to do it forever. - Ada 5'6 " Age 26 364 / 285 / 194 Consult/Band Day/Now 7.20.06/3.19.07/10.15.07 Lap Band by Dr. Greene in Rockville, MD --------------------------------- Boardwalk for $500? Guest guest
Ok. That info was great but most of that is known by most .Doc.A is great. We all know this but there are also other good Doctors that treat bandsters out there for fills so constant flying/traveling doesn't have to take place. From: renoalaska <renoalaska@...>Sent: Saturday, January 12, 2008 7:58 PM Subject: FillsI will always go back to Mexicali for fills as I found out even the doctors here that do lapbands & charge $18,000 for it do fills on patients without flouro. They only do flouro if there is a problem after they have tried to do it without a couple of times. They do a fill, see if you can swallow water & send you home. If you want it done with flouro the first time they want $400. Guest guest
Thank you for sharing that. I think you have made my mind up to continue on with only seeing dr. A. Also, thank you for not being condesending or sarcastic like few on this sight and not getting so personally intwined with your own opinions and feelings about other's. RE: Fills You are right....there are other good doctors out there who will treat bandsters. However, after going to a doctor in Atlanta at a very well-known facility with a great reputation, I learned my lesson the hard way. Months later, 10-12 rounds of antibiotics later, I had to have a severly damaged, infected port removed with a new one to be placed at a later date. Yes, I'm sure there are other doctors out there but WHY TAKE THE CHANCE???? No one other than Dr. Aceves will EVER touch my band again! Jenni " LISA...a.k.a.PRETTYEYEZ!!! " <sxyteacha@...> wrote: Ok. Guest guest
No attitude on my behalf sweeety. I am a young woman just struggling from losing her very young mother recently after taking care of her and watching her deteriorate from cancer as well as having to pull the plug and ultimately have her die in my arms. Any one who has taken time to respond has my appreciation. My joureney with the band was slowed down momentarily but I am back on track. I will no longer be on this site to judge anyone nor be falsely judged. God bless. RE: Fills You seem to have a little " attitude " my dear. Doubt if you'll get much more help here with a " tude " like that. We are all here to learn and to help others in the way or ways we know how. Each time a message is seen, it may be the first time for some and a refresher for others. I thank each and every one of the bansters for taking their precious time to respond to challenges or posting their progress and life happenings. We are all here to support each other. Hope you get my drift. Reno deserves a thank you, so I will say it for you, " Thank you Reno for your reply! " " LISA...a.k.a.PRETTYEYEZ!!! " <sxyteacha@...> wrote: Ok. Guest guest
Clear liquids.. broths.. think of it like the day after surgery if you want. Some people can do protein shakes.. others cant. I like those soup at hand by Campells after fills. THen do mushies after. Guest guest
First of all.... follow your DOCTOR's orders.. they usually will tell you what diet plan to follow. As a general rule, many doctors will tell you to do clear fluids for 24 hours, pureed liquids the next 24 hours and soft foods the third day. After that you can add in solid protein cut into small bites and chewed well. Again.. it's VERY important to follow YOUR doctor's plan and not rely on advice from a forum exclusively. terrinabell <terrinabell@...> wrote: Can anyone tell me what I am suppose to have after I have a fill and for how many days am I suppose to be on liquids and what kind of liquids. Guest guest
It IS a little cavalier, but in reality the only thing that matters is if the fill is too little, too much or " just right. " The actual exact # of cc doesn't really doesn't matter at ll, unless there is something wrong, like a possible leak. then, at that point, things need to be carefully measured. We're all really too concerned with the # of cc, when that doesn't tell us a single thing. Fills are never an exact science, and if the fill people do not use a stopcock and small syringe - and most do not - fills are mostly a guess. This is one reason why fills are so tough to get to a good level. Sandy r. > > re: Fills may not fully kick in for 2-3 weeks, so wait at least that > long between fills.
