Guest guest
Hi , Please join us in losing weight/fat the healthy way. Please check out www.bodyforlife.com and www.hussman.org (the fitness section). These sites will give you an idea of what we are doing. This is a very healthy eating plan and exercise program. It is NOT a starvation diet, you get to eat every 3hrs and you get a free day. The exercise portion takes from 20-50 min/6days a wk. I work out at home. You can start out with a few hand wts, or use canned food, empty milk jugs filled with water, etc. Some of the exercises you can start with no wt. Anyway, please check out the above sites to get you started. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. You CAN do it! Guest guest
Everybody here is doing Body for Life. It's a book by Bill that outlines how to transform your body. Go buy a copy or check it out from the library. The nutrition involves six small protein and carb balanced meals a day from a list of authorized foods. Three days a week you do 20 minutes of intense interval cardio, three days a week you do 45-60 minute pyramid sets of either upper or lower body weight training, and on the seventh day you don't have to workout and you get to eat whatever you want. Pretty sweet!! In addition to the core workouts, you can still be active throughout the day, take a class, go jogging, whatever interests you. Be sure to check out the Body for Life site for specific information on nutrition and workouts. You may also want to check out the new Bill book Eating for Life for help with nutrition and meal planning. Somewhere on that website they may ask for a password to see the meal plans and menus. If they do, last time I checked the magic words were " grilled salmon " . Here's another great sites to check out: Hussman's Site - Wonderful, detailed info on transforming your body. Sit down with a large caffeine and an hour or so to kill. Body for Life doesn't require calorie counting. You eat palm or fist sized portion of protein and carbs six times a day. So, a day might go like: palm sized piece of wheat toast, fist sized scrambled eggs palm sized portion of turkey slices, fist of grapes fist sized portion of cottage cheese, fist sized apple palm sized lean hamburger or veggie burger, fist sized wheat bun palm sized tuna pouch, fist sized orange palm sized chicken breast, fist sized potato You need to eat a vegetable with at least two meals but you can have as many veggies as you want. Big salads, bags of carrots, celery, and broccoli with lowfat dip. See the Lean out or Swell Up Menu for why fruits and vegetables are so important for weight loss. If you're doing this at school, it's really handy to have an insulated cooler and one of those blue ice thingies that you freeze and use to keep your meals cold. There are a lot of meal options that are portable and can be eaten quickly on a break or between classes. Check out the nutrition bars at the grocery store. My article on Meal Replacement Bars will give you an idea of what to look for. The meal replacement shakes and bars aren't necessary but they're kind of handy if you're busy. Stay away from Slim Fast. It's sugar water. Look for things with at least 15-20g of protein on the label and less than 30g of carbs. Try to recruit some people to do this with you. It's more fun and easier to stick with if you have a team. Ask your friends, parents, brothers, sisters, anybody who might be interested. If there aren't any willing participants you can still find lots of support here. Good luck! Keep us posted. :-) help me i need help losing weight for april 9,2005 .. i really want a flat stomach.... and smaller thighs and get rid of my love handles as well... what should i do help me
Guest guest
Hi Kathy, This must be so awful for you and your daughter! I have an 8yo daughter and a 4 yo son, and I suffer when they do! A few thoughts. We have a charter school near us that seems to attract lots of non-mainstream kids. My daughter takes art there, and fits right in. Granted, she doesn't seem to do as many tics there as when she is elsewhere, but other kids there have tics and other problems, so she really doesn't stand out. From speaking with the 2 teachers she works with, they know how to handle it. We've had no problems. Maybe a charter school in your area would be more willing/able to work with you and your daughter. As for homeschooling, we homeschool. One of the things I like is that while she sees a variety of kids through play dates and different activities, I am usually on hand and would be the one to handle any problems. But homeschooling is a big decision, and it needs a lot of careful thought. It might depend on where you live and what support can be had from other homeschoolers. I'm in the Ann Arbor, Michigan area, and we have tons of homeschoolers, which is great. I know lots of families that have pulled their kids out of school due to children being teased and/or lack of support from teachers, and many have been very glad they did so. It is certainly something to consider, and may be a good choice for you. If you have questions, please feel free to email me. Possibly off-list would be best. (plbus@...). Guest guest
Hi Kathy, Only have a moment, but call the school and ask for a definite date for the meeting. A 504 Plan is fine unless you want some kind of special education services for your dd, then you need an IEP. You can get modifications and accommodations for school with just the 504 Plan, and it has to be followed, just like an IEP. So far as the nose picking, your dd is just going to have to work on being more aware. I know she can't help it, she's probably not thinking a bit about it when she does it. But other kids can be mean (as we all know!) and that is obviously a social turn-off. My son (now 16) with OCD and Aspergers has had his own share of being picked on/made fun of, and I know how " hot " I get about it. Especially as *I* was a picked on/made fun of child also, memories still with me today! All my sons have had teachers who are no help at all when you ask them for help (re understanding what was taught), they'll say " not now " or " I've already been over it enough " or " check your notes " .... Frustrating and another pet peeve with me! Well, hang in there! And get a definite meeting date, keep calling until you do. Go to the school system administrative office if you keep getting put off. > > I am having the hardest time handling my emotions after hearing what > my daughter goes through at school. Guest guest
Kathy, I homeschool my 2 kids for these exact reasons. We live in a very small rural community with not many options. However, like E. said it is a big decision. I live in Illinois which I understand is one of the best states to homeshool in. Homeschooling was the right decision for us. I do not miss those days when my daughter would go to school crying and come back home still crying. It was awful! Best of luck to you in whatever you decide. Feel free to email me off-list if you want to. (snowdogs2@...) Ramona

Guest guest
Thanks Ramona, I think if I was a stay at home mom and had a husband, I might try it, but I just don't think it's possible for me to do the homeschooling thing. I do run a daycare at home and I am here in the day, but I just don't think that is an option. I'm not capable of taking the time to teach her. > > Kathy, I homeschool my 2 kids for these exact reasons. We live in a > very small rural community with not many options. Guest guest
Hi Jeanne - I have to agree with you. Most of what I read here doesn't make sense to me either. I am also on meds and doing well. Diagnosed in 2000, probably having had HIV for over 10 years, I had a t-cell count of 23 - seemed like everything was deteriorating and I felt awful. Now my viral load is undetectible, and t-cell is over 700. I think it's preferable to perhaps view other hiv/aids related sites. Best of luck to you. Kathy HELP ME OH MY GOD I WANT SO BADLY TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IT IS YOU ARE ALL SAYING. I DONT UNDERSTAND ALL THIS ABOUT HIV BEING A MYTH. I WAS DIAGNOSED BACK IN 92 AND IT SURE SEEMS REAL TO ME. YOU SAY ITS THE DRUGS KILLING US, BUT I WAS REALLY SICK TILL I GOT ON A REGIMEN THAT WORKED, AND NOW MY VIRAL LOAD IS 0,HAS BEEN FOR 3 YEARS. ISN'T THAT A GOOD THING? AM I KILLING MYSELF SOMEHOW WITHOUT KNOWING? BY THE WAY, I AM TAKING: ZIAGEN,KALETRA,EPIVER, AND VIDEX. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME. Guest guest
I thought I had replied to this earlier but I must have hit cancel instead of send. Anyhoo, I have a wonderful sugar scrub that I use every night which leaves my skin feeling fabulous. It's simply equal amounts of white sugar (or a little more sugar if you want a bit more exfoliation), the oil(s) of your choice, soap (1:1 liquid soap/melt & pour soap for a thicker consistency), optional fragrance, and an appropriate amount of preservative. This scrub may be used from head to toe--just don't get it in your eyes! Hope this helps. julie > > can anyone help me i am looking for something to make my skin softer >
Guest guest
Sounds great , but you dont need a preservative for that product. Any microorganism is incapable of living in that environment. I'll have to try it, but will have to make some liquid soap first and come up with a refreshing, soothing essential oil blend ;-) Thanks for the tip ;-) Have a great day, R.
