Guest guest
I am going to have to agree with April. I have known too many people who have learned to "eat around" the gastric bypass and regain all their weight back. I happen to love the sleeve. Any weight loss surgery is just a tool and it is ALL about lifestyle change. And it has to be a 'FOREVER LIFESTYLE CHANGE." if you want to be healthy and maintain your weight loss. I lost 133 pounds with the VSG and have kept it all off after 20 mos. post-op. My GBP friends have regained. Just sayin'>
Guest guest
Anyone can learn to eat around their surgery type. With bypass the reason I'm not a fan is that they have a pouch and stoma, similar to a band. But unlike the band over time the stoma can dilate and that doesn't leave anything holding food in their stomach so the 'full' signals go away. They just don't feel full. Then considering they are only malabsorbing for 6-24 months a few years post op if their stoma has dilated they are hungry all the time and no longer malabsorbing calories. So I don't think it's that bypass folks learn to eat around their surgery type more than anyone else, they just have mechanical problems instead that lead to overeating. Some people are seriously metabolically challenged and they need that 6-24 months of malabsorption. It's kinda one of those things that we all have to do what is right for us. But make no mistake, in the end bypass has to eat like sleeve folks to maintain. Bypass itself isn't going to 'keep' anyone at goal. No surgery type does because no surgery type fixes white carbs and 99% of us likely become obese due to white carbs. That's where the lifestyle changes come into play. On Wed, Apr 6, 2011 at 4:45 PM, <SuzanneSH@...> wrote: I am going to have to agree with April.
