Guest guest
I don't believe it is anti-lapband. Not in the least. It's hard to correct misinformation about one procedure without it looking like one is downing another. If someone prefers another surgery type that does not make them anti-other WLS types. I think we all have to look at the stats, eating behaviors, and choose what is right for us as individuals. Now that wlsfacts.com has come into fruition I think that sleeve folks will have a place they can call home. There really are not any quality sleeve boards out there and hopefully whoever started this one had a great idea and sleeve folks can have a place to call home. With that said, this egroup is the only place for Dr. A patients and I would hope all surgery types are welcome here. Guest guest
I was invited to use this Board by Dr. A's team however he performed a Sleeve procedure on me, I would hate to think that I am no longer welcome just because I choose not to have the Lap Band. I wade thru most of the posts looking for bits and pieces of information that is specific for my situation however I have never downed anyone for their choice to have the Band or to give advice on the band and I would hope those of us that have had the sleeve would be granted the same courtesy. It is a decision, a personal decision but one that Dr. A helped us make. We are here for the same reason that those that have had the band are, education and support. Guest guest
You are so welcome. I dont understand all the contraversy as I have dear friends who just decided to have the sleeve and not the band and I would never tell them not to do it. We all are hear for the same purpose, to gain support and answers. Biplay is a good resource and has alot of good information. I think that as bandsters, we love our bands because we are finally enjoying not being obese any longer and we dont know any other way other than what we are experiencing. We all made the choices to either get the band or sleeve and we chose what was best for us. More and more people are choosing the sleeve so you will have more peole that understand. But we can support you..we all know what the journey of weight loss is like. 207/158/140 > > I was invited to use this Board by Dr. A's team however he performed a Sleeve procedure on me, I would hate to think that I am no longer welcome just because I choose not to have the Lap Band. Guest guest
Marie,Oh, please don't feel not welcome. It is so good to have diversity and be able to hear what each person is going through and which surgery they decided on. Like Bipley said, it is hard to talk about the different surgery's and not appear negative against the other. We are all hear to support each other and our common thread is the best surgeon ever - Dr. Aceves. Cyrena Re: What happened to the Dr. Aceves BANDSTER Board? Guest guest
Marie and Bip, Please don't get me wrong. All are welcome here. I believe making a choice to lose weight is always a great thing no matter which path one chooses to take. We all come here for comraderie and I hope this board contiues to provide that for each one of us. I submitted my last post because I don't think that this board, of all places, should be a place where a banded person should have to defend their choice of WLS (and I perceived that to be happening, intended or not). We have the rest of the world to do that with. Like I mentioned before, I'd like to keep this board a safe haven for all bandsters and sleevers to come and share. Guest guest
Marie, I am thinking of the sleeve as the best fit for myself too and I am interested in hearing about your experience. I don't see any other post's on the sleeve procedure. Please do write about it as I am sure others are watching & reading.Marie Friedman <apanther97@...> wrote: I was invited to use this Board by Dr. A's team however he performed a Sleeve procedure on me, I would hate to think that I am no longer welcome just because I choose not to have the Lap Band. Guest guest
As for me I don't mind anyone posting on this board. We are all in the same boat. Good luck to everyone who wishes to lose the unwanted pounds! And remember... We are a team...We support...We listen...We encourage...We love...We smile...We cry...We laugh...We share...Together...We are a team...Let's stick together, all of us... Guest guest
This is first and foremost a support group for patients and potential patients of Dr Aceves. When it first began the sleeve did not have the popularity it now enjoys. If weight loss is a journey, as it is so often referenced, then the two types of surgery just represent two different vehicles. Both vehicles travel over the same highway to reach the goal. While it is true that they may burn slightly different fuels and have slightly different engine components the fact remains that they are both still internal combustion engines. Both types face many, although not all, of the same challenges, potholes and detours if you will, along that highway. A group like this can help point out the obstacles ahead of time and provide some insight as to how to avoid them. OK enough with the analogy. Sometimes in order to self validate the choice we made it seems to be necessary to question someone else’s choice. Natural but not really productive. If we reach a number of sleevies, sleevesters or whatever the word will be J big enough to warrant it, and I’m pretty sure we will, then perhaps it would be time to split the board. For now I hope we can stay focused on the support side and also allow for more direct information exchange between the sleevies as well as the Bandsters. Also please be aware that there is a new board www.wlsfacts.com that has separate discussion groups and is worth checking out.
