Guest guest
Hi Jen Just thought I'd drop in with my experiences--not sure what SAD is Axel, Starch And Dairy--assume it means avoids--guessing BIG TIME avoids-- If I go on a high fat, sugar, caffeine, white flour binge I have exactly the same symptoms as you, Jen. I sometimes forget what side of the road to drive on when turning a corner, forget to go to lunch at work, forget ANYTHING told me 10 minutes ago, forget to give hubby credit card receipts which send him skyward like a rocket, I do this so consistently I have to tuck them in my watch in order to get to the house with them after filling up with petrol 15 minutes away. I had to cut out ALL grain carbs and potatoes [i do have an OCCASIONAL sweet potato] ALL dairy products [feta once a week]. I eat starchy veg but not every day. I went on Atkins/ER regime and this has GREATLY improved my brain fog BUT ALSO I started drinking 1/2 oz of water for every pound I weigh and this also cleared up stiffness in feet, joints etc BUT you must take a pinch of unrefined seasalt for every pint or so of water as you need to replace depleted minerals with so much water. My eyesight improves dramatically if I stay away from sugar in any form--honey, dried fruit, canned fruit, fruit juice anything like that--fresh fruit is alright but not really sweet apples etc--I LOVE cooking apples sliced really thinly sprinkled with allspice and slivered almonds. Of course you can try Stevia but I can't get it here... AND I would get to the doctor RIGHT AWAY--I've lived with the fear of diabetes hanging over me for years as I had all the symptoms, FINALLY had it checked and there was nothing--so all that misery for nothing--it's better to know it is food intolerance and not something else--the truth will set you free. HOping for the best for you always Kae >
Guest guest
Thank you, Kae, for your insight. SAD stands for Standard American Diet, although your interpretation pretty much sums it up. I will try the no sugar route and also the no starch route & see if that helps. It is easy on ER anyway. Right now my only dairy and sugar are in my morning coffee, which is also an avoid. I haven't had any yet this morning, but it is a holiday & I will be celebrating with friends, so I am a bit worried about caffeine withdrawal. I only have one cup a day, so green tea might substitute nicely. I had one bite of a sandwich, one bite of a molasses cookie, and one bite of a pizzelle cookie yesterday, as my only grain consumption. So I have been keeping enough in my system that it hasn't completely cleared out yet. I also have been eating chicken instead of beef, so am not seeing the dramatic improvement. (actually, the Italian Chicken and Glazed Turnips & Onions monodiet I am alone in the house this week, and had leftovers for lunch & dinner yesterday, and have one portion left <g>) I will totally keep the water in mind. As much as I love salty foods, I don't think I will be drinking enough water to need salt supplementation. But since I gave up diet soda a few days ago, drinking water is pretty easy. Guest guest
because I'm a 38.7 bmi and I live far away, I spoke to at length and she recommended the sleeve. I researched like crazy and spoke to several other sleeve recipients, and it seems like it will work way better for me. You should also look into it, all the pros and cons for both the band and sleeve, where you live , as with the band you will need adjustments. Happy researching!! daf > > Daphne, > > I am happy to hear there are other nurses out there who have done their research and still decided to go to Mexico. I am still in the decision stage--still not sure if I am a candidate for the band. (low end BMI). The more and more I read on this discussion board, the more and more I think that if this is something I decide to do---I will choose Dr. Aceves. > > The few people I have confided in re: banding have responded with shock and " you do not need that " . What they fail to see is, at age of 36 my grandfather died of a heart attack. My mother have her first heart attack at age 40, first bypass age 45. Both my parents are diabetic. I have put on 25+ pounds in one year. I am now 36--have done the gain and lose 30lbs three times--and I know I can not do that forever. All of the older women on my dad's side are 250lbs+. I know where I am headed. So for me---I am thinking it is the best option. > > If I get banded and loose the weight---can they loosen it up to keep me from getting too skinny? I really need to loose 40lb-45lbs and that is pushing it. So do I do it now, or wait til next year when I have gained another 25lbs and do it then? > > Also, what was the anesthesia like for the procedures? > > Thank you for listening. > > ~Undecided in Texas > aka jen > > > > > > From: Mercer <diamercerhotmail (DOT) com> > Subject: RE: [Dr-Aceves-bandster s] I would like to email someone who has had the sleeve surgery > > @groups. com > Date: Thursday, July 17, 2008, 4:34 PM > > > > > Daphne, My name is diana and I had the sleeve done Aug 9, 2007.
