Did you lose weight when you had the RNY? I cannot even imagine not losing

weight with both. Can you give a little detail about when you had RNY, how much

you lost, etc.

I was banded in April 06 and I have lost about 50 lbs. I can eat propcorn no

problem but some I know cannot. You will have to try it to see. I know that I

don't lose weight unless I really cut down my eating to almost nothing and lots

of water. I have a problem getting evercise in.

Hello everyone,

I am banded over my RNY. I was banded Dec 5,06. I lost 5 pounds

prior to band and have lost 15 pounds since the band. I haven't lost

any weight since post op one month when food was added to my diet..

Once food was added(off soft stage and liquid) I stopped losing weight.

I had a fill 1.5cc on Jan 22,07. I haven't lost an ounce since then and

I actually feel hungrier now than prior to fill. I am eating between

1/2 c. and 1 c. servings.. Somedays I have snacks others I don't.I do

aqua aerobics between 3-5 times a week.I am anemic and just seem to

feel lathargic several days a week. I take lots of supplements due to

RNY.Any idea what's going on? Is it ok to try popcorn? or is that not a

good Band food?

Thanks for the help

Elaine,

I had open RNY on 6-26-01. I lost 150 pounds over a 3 year

period. I then started to regain. I had an enlarged stoma so I never

felt full. I gained back 70 pounds before the revision and band was

added to tighten the stoma some. I had some restriction after the

band. I have more appetite after my first fill then before I got

1.5cc fill.Hope this helps some.. Thanks for the help..

Hi Sharon,

You were very brave to have a second surgery. I know other RNY

patients who are gaining back too. I really believe that the calorie

restriction ultimately causes a metabolic setback. Have you

estimated how many calories you are taking in at present. Its

possible(and we'd all love to hear its true)that you may need to

increase your calories. The body will begin to go into starvation

mode and will hold on to every bit of energy you feed it. Its best

for bandsters and in this case RNY/bandster to stay at about 1200 to

1500 calories a day. Your workout sounds great. I stick with air

popped popcorn. Half a cup unpopped is around 100 calories and its a

lot of popcorn. I usually do 1/4 cup and add tbsp of melted Smart

Balance or butter flavored cooking spray and a dash of popcorn salt.

One of my favorite snacks. It hasn't even been a month since your

fill, so give it some time and see how it goes. Best to you.

Remember, NO surgery will make you lose weight if you don't follow directions.

I can guarantee you that you can gain weight with any weight loss surgery if you

consume a lot of liquid calories. Some RNY folks dump with milk and sugar, but

many don't. So if you live on milkshakes and chocolate candy....no surgery will

stop you from gaining.

Sure, that sounds goofy....but there are goofy obese people out there....which

is one of the reasons most docs require some psych testing/counseling before

being banded.

And exercise.....why do you have a problem getting it in? JUST DO IT. Yeah, it

is a new habit to develop for many of us, but it is vital. VITAL. And not

having enough time is NOT a valid excuse.

Ok, I know it's too early in the game to be concerned about weight

loss, or lack thereof, but in the last week, I've barely lost a

pound. I started mushies officially yesterday altho' I did have a

bit of cottage cheese the day before.

I've tried to be really good at not eating anything I shouldn't have

and with the exception of a couple of things, I haven't. And those

couple of things shouldn't have been enough to mess up too much. So

what gives?

Prior to yesterday, my typical full liquid day was a cream-type soup

for two meals and a yogurt for the other with protein drinks and

other clear liquids in between. Yesterday, my first day on mushies,

I had a scrambled egg, three cooked prunes and about 3 Tbsp cottage

cheese for breakfast. For lunch, I had a cup of tomato soup and

about 1/3 cup mashed potatoes. For supper, I had about 3/4 cup thick

veggie soup, 6 cubes of papaya (about 1/4 cup) and a couple

tablespoons cottage cheese. Other than some water, that was it.

Does anyone see anything from this that should be improved or changed

or whatever? Mind you, I'm not unhappy at all about losing 20 pounds

in two and a half weeks but like I said, the scale has barely moved

for the last week.

Help? ;o)

Yeah, it's possible with the soup... the tomato is store-bought and

even tho' it's organic, it's probably got more sodium than I'd

normally use when making my own. But the rest is mine and I use very

little salt any more.

I can go with the lemon water idea but tea? Tea is evil, didn't you

know? So is coffee. ;o) Which does limit the number of warm things

I can have some. ;o)

Yeah, I'm sure that's part of it. I know I'm being a bit paranoid

about everything, mostly because I have no idea what's normal and

what's not. I picked up a box yesterday that probably weighed about

20 pounds and I shouldn't have. I know I pulled things but I keep

probing, wondering if I've torn anything, looking for bruising,

checking incisions. I'm sore and I really doubt I did any real

damage but I am still a wuss. ;o)

Oh, and it was probably more like 3000 calories a day. ;o)

A lot of hypo people have edema - which is water weight. I wouldn't worry about it being too fast. Just let your body do its thing and eat healthy.

Steph

Weight loss question

I've just started supplementing w/Iosol - a little over 12.8mg per day (7 drops of Iosol) - i have not changed my eating habits at all at this point - i've taken Iosol for 3 days now - the scale is down 4 lbs !

I have A LOT to lose as this condition has been mis-diagnosed so many times (i still show on the low end of normal and most dr's just dismiss me) - now while my goal is to be healthy, i certainly need the weight loss - what i'm curious about is how much is too much too fast?

If i've been basically hypo for the past 20 years, would this excess weight end up just falling off as i move from hypo to normal? Or if i'm losing more than 2 lbs a week should i get in asap to see my dr?
