Guest guest
Loretta: What is the difference between the sleeve and the lap band? How does each one compare and under what circumstances would one get the sleeve over the lap band? Thanks! Gail Hi Debi in Portland, I am so thrilled for you. Can't wait to see the pictures. Keep it up! Someday i would love to meet you as I am only a few miles away. What doctor did you use for the fill in Ptld?I am scheduled for the "Sleeve" with Dr A on July 11th. I am so excited. If you like the doctor in Portland for the fill, maybe i'll switch to the band. I have been concerned about the fills and unfills. Let me know your thoughts. I've not posted for quite a few weeks. I'm 44 days post banding, down 35 lbs so far on my journey, and gone from a size 24 to 18. I've got a few pictures, but not sure how to attach them so I'll ask my daughter to help me with that this weekend. I had my first fill this week, 1.8cc, and all is going well. I had hoped to get back for my fill with Dr. A, but the timing just didn't work out with my work schedule, airfare, space on the shuttle van, etc., so I had it done locally and am very pleased. I joined 24 Hr Fitness two weeks ago and I'm working hard at that. I also had 15 days of being the EXACT same weight, even though eating correctly and exercising most days at least 1 hour. That was very frustrating, especially when my fill doctor told me I was not eating enough calories. Well, when you fill up on a few bits of cottage cheese or yogurt it's hard to get in 800 calories a day. But I'm back to losing weight and figuring out how to get those calories in each day. I'm also working on drinking all the water. If you're thinking about getting banded but not sure... I say go for it! I wish I had done this 10 years ago. Take care and thanks to everyone for all your postings. The encouragement really keeps me going.Debi in PortlandDOB 4/17/08Start/Surgery/ Current/Goal252 / 241 / 217 / 143 Keep your kids safer online with Windows Live Family Safety. Guest guest
Bipley would be better to answer the difference but I know that there is a new board www.wlsfacts.com that deals with the sleeve as well as other types of wls. They even have a section about people that have revisions from one type to another. Might go check it out J Craig From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Gail Stockin Sent: Sunday, June 01, 2008 8:57 PM Subject: What is the difference between the sleeve and the lab band? Guest guest
Loretta, I couldnt agree more about more postings for the sleeve. I had the sleeve done on April 11th by Dr Aceeves. I have lost about 32 pounds. There are so many questions I have for those that are a couple months ahead of me. If you have any questions for me I would be happy to help in any way I can. Guest guest
Hi Gail...They are both considered restrictive procedures vs. malabsorptive such as in bypass. With the band a small band is placed around your stomach and food is limited that way. With the sleeve your stomach is surgically made smaller. They remove a portion of your stomach that produces Ghrelin, a hormone that makes you hungry so many sleeve patients report that they do not experience a great deal of hunger and some none at all. There are pros and cons to each one, I am choosing to revise from a band to a sleeve due to some complications and an added extra is that there is no routine follow up care as with a band or bypass.
