Welcome! Your doctor should be giving you very clear guidelines as to

the post -op diet. Going streght from claer liquids to things like

potatoes and cottage cheese is too nig of a step. We need to progress

slowly and crefully.

Usuaully, people need to be on liquids (clear and then full) for a week

or two. then, some docs allow mushy foods - mashed cottage cheese, very

thin potatoes, etc. It's impt to follow your doc's specific orders.

The biggest thing people have trouble with is bite size , chewing, and

speed.

You must start with a TINY bite with banding - PEA size only. then,

chew at least 15-20 times. Put the fork DIOWN between bites so you're

eating very slowly. As you become more experienced over the next few

months, some can take larger bites if they are atuomatically chewing

every bite very well. Some need to take tiny bites forever, so they

don't forget.

We'll offer sugesstions as we can, but each doc has his own orders that

you must follow.

Therea re a great many new things to learn, and your doc's written

material are exztremely important.

Welcome to Bandland!

Carole!! I was just about to email you!!

Wonderful news - Someone was taking special care of him.. (or Someone

and you too!)

Please encourage him to join here himself, and take mor

responsibility for his new life and self-care. Hard, with the older

guys with womnderful wives taking care OF them, i know! But he will

need to lern to make good choices for himself, recognize glitches

himself. and put his Band first himself!

Just as we women need to learn to take better care of ourselves after

banding, he will need to learn too - and the first lesson is to slow

doen, and take time for healing - and then stay permanently slowed

down!

Great to hear all is well!

Thank you for thinking of us Sandy. I know you are still probably

catching up. He definitely was " well taken care of. " Lots of

prayers involved. I'm trying to just answer questions for him when

they come up, but when I see him asking for ice in his water, sipping

from straws, etc, I have to speak up. I think in the long run, he'll

learn for himself, even if it is the hard way. I just have to know

when to be quiet. He walked about a mile today. I think he's

already in better shape than me at his current weight. I'll

definitely have a hard time keeping up with him in the future. I

wanted to ask you about this new band. The doc said that he gave

an AP large? It holds 14 cc's. He said they just came in. Do

you know anything about them?

Thanks

I am sitting in my bed at Alamater Hospital 1 day post op from my lap

band surgery. I am still excited about this. Dr A, Dr Campos, all the

nurses especially Lucia are awesome. I have met some really neat people

here too. It has just been an awesome experience and I can't wait to be

on this journey. Thanks to everyone who gave the great suggestions on

what to take. My heating pad and gas x have really been my friends. I

started the application process at 248 and when I checked in yesterday

was 240 so hopefully it is all down hill from here. Thanks everyone for

all the support I received prior to this process. I wouldn't have done

it at all without the advice from Jim Hansel in Nebraska. Thanks!

Mandi,

Hope you are better and it went well going home. Please let me know how

you are doing.

Welcome aboard Tonja! I can just picture you there in your bed, post-op. It brings back postive memories, actually. I am nearly three months post-op and feeling great. The band has given me HOPE and the ability to be a LOSER. It totally ROCKS. (DR. A and his team are the best.) Best to you. Keep is posted. Welcome to the band life. My best advice for you is to make use of the great

information Sandy has in the files. If it weren't for the all this information

I don't think I would be successful.

> Hello all,

> I have been following along in the group with you as I started this

journey back in October with my Seminar. On 25th of Feb, last Thursday I

received my lapband. This is day 5 post op and I am feeling pretty good. I

still have one sore spot, the rest is getting back to normal. I am still on

clear liquids for today, tomorrow is full liquids. I have been overwt all of my

life and I am ready to take care of myself and to feel better. My goal is to

get healthy, to get off of 2 blood pressure pills, cholesterol pill and diabetic

pill. I started out in Oct at 248, I am 5ft 3in and down to 222. My goal is to

at least 150. It has been a huge blessing to read all of your post to the

group, it has really helped me these past months. I would appreciate all the

encouragement, and advice that you have time to send my way. This is the first

time in life that I actually remember doing something for myself. This is for

ME.... I am a giver, and at first felt guilty for putting myself first, but I

realize that I can not help others if I do not take care of me. Again, thank

you each for taking the time to post, it helps newbies to learn to use this tool

and make it work. God Bless!
