General Accounting Ofiice GAO has reported that over half of the

nation's schools have

unsatisfactory indoor environmental conditions, including inadequate

ventilation and poor

air quality, that present a health threat to students and staff.~

HVAC systems were the

most frequently reported building feature in need of repairs in

these schools.
