Guest guest
Congratulations Ed! I will there - with one day after surgery (June 30th for me)! So, you will have good friends around! At least you can get first hand what we think too! I know there will be a few more people. Warmly, Gail From: Biocleanhelp@... <Biocleanhelp@...>Subject: It's a sleeve - - on July 1! Date: Tuesday, June 10, 2008, 12:43 PM Well, I finally got the ball rolling and I have a date, 1 July 2008. I'm going with the sleeve after many hours of wrestling with the idea of sleeve versus band. At first I was going with the band. Then I reconsidered after learning about he sleeve's success with nearly correcting diabetes at a fast rate. Then there's the issue of cutting my appetite. It is my appetite that I no long care to deal with. I'm just tired of getting hungry all the time. At my age, 61, there's not that much longer to deal with any of it. I might as well used the time saved eating and dreaming of eating on a worthwhile project, like fishing or something. That's what I'm thinking on. Guest guest
Ed, Congratulations on getting the Sleeve !! I am also having one 6/27. Maybe we can compare notes. I don't have diabetes though. The only thing I really fear is the liquid diet phase and not being able to ingest anything but clear liquids. I wish I had a food cop or something like that during that time. Have you started the liver-shrinking diet yet? I have 3 days before I have to. I am going to GNC soon to get some of the liquid protein stuff. I wonder if you can do Jamba Juice during the clear liquid phase. LorettaBiocleanhelp@... wrote: Well, I finally got the ball rolling and I have a date, 1 July 2008. Guest guest
Bipley,... Yes, clear liquids is anything you can see through. Jamba juice was really pushing it. Broth, popsicles, tea, jello, water, apple juice and the protein water. Is beef broth allowed? It is dark. And ....is there any good tasting protein water out there??? Are you on the mend with your sleeve? I have been reading about people getting weak from lack of getting enough protein down. Hope all is good with you and thaks for all your wise words. Guest guest
Hi Loretta....Jamba juice isn't just pushing it, it isn't even close to a clear. ;o) But I know, JJ is some seriously good stuff. ;o) " Berry Fulfilling? " Anyone? HA!Beef broth is a clear. Protein water... Some like protein water but watch the calories. You really need a more concentrated version of protein during the post op phase, protein water has about 5gms of protein/120 calories and you need 60-70grms of protein a day. That calculates out to be 1440 calories a day just for protein alone. Besides, I don't think you'll be able to get that much liquid down in the beginning so be sure to get more concentrated protein down so you don't fill up on something that only has 5gms protein. It's a good idea not to get used to things that you really shouldn't have later on, IOW, get used to the right ways of doing things now vs. putting it off. You will be going through such a huge lifestyle change sometimes when it comes to the little stuff it's easier to get used to all of it at once vs. habit change after habit change after habit change. It's so easy to start all new bad habits, that is what you don't want to do. You already have to break old bad habits, there is no value in learning new bad habits that have to be broken in a few weeks. Yep, I'm on the mend with my sleeve and life is good. I think I'm going to really like my sleeve, so far things are much easier. I think that in my case it would have been a much easier journey all the way around with a sleeve from the very beginning. It's the weirdest feeling, I know I should be hungry but I'm just not. No Ghrelin! Gotta love it! My " tube " stomach feels empty, grumbling, all the signs that go with hunger but no " feeling " of hunger. It's kind of more of an observation of hunger than a feeling of hunger. Since I have head hunger under control at this point in the game I am fully realizing how it is when people say that they set timers to remind them to eat. It's just a bizarre feeling. I can certainly see the day when I'll have to set a timer on my phone to remind me to eat. Already I catch myself not drinking enough protein and I see the time and realize I forgot. One thing I have learned, I will never again whine about port pain. Of course, I will whine to no end about removing a port. That does kinda hurt and burn and feel like a bon fire is going on in there. It hurts a whole lot more to remove a port than it does to place it to begin with.
