Hi,

I will have the sleeve on the 26th of June with Dr. Aceves. Is the

hospital within walking distance to the beach? Starting to get a

little nervous and anticipating.

No, it isn't. I'm pretty sure that you won't be bored. Bring along a book or audio book, your cell phone, maybe a journal. You'll probably be feeling a bit tired and the pain meds will keep you content. I would tell you some things you could do in Mexicali when you go for fills. . . but you won't be needing fills with your sleeve. Should you ever go back for check-ups, I would recommend a few quaint taco-shops, the busy busy mall which is fun to experience, the park (with a small zoo area), and of course, hanging out at the lovely Lucerna hotel. Good luck. You will be well taken care of, promise! "susan.garde" <suziq1964@...> wrote: Hi,I will have the sleeve on the 26th of June with Dr. Aceves. No, the hospital isn't near the beach. The hotel where you will stay the night before (if you're flying in and being picked up by Arnesto) is wonderful. They have a nice pool, but you won't have much time to swim. There's a grocery store across the street from the hotel (if you walk out the front door turn right walk up about 100 yards and cross the street). There you can find crystal light packets (called C-Light) in great flavors that we can't get here in US. Also, there is a mall not far from the hospital w/ lots of stores. I didn't make it to the mall during my surgery stay, but many do. I plan to go there on my next trip down (I had band and will go to mall when I go for fill).

Ask Yolanda about the mall. She might could arrange for someone to get you there or call a cab for you if you don't feel like walking the whole way. Many do walk.

Hope this helps.

Hey Suzi, :o)

Congratulations on your date! :o) It'll be here before you know it and

overwith before you know it too. ;o)

Mexicali is probably about 50 miles as the crow flies from any

substancial water, so, no, no beach within walking distance. ;o) Seems

like I've seen someone post that there's a mall nearby however but I

couldn't tell you for sure.

Honestly, I'm not sure there *is* much within walking distance. The

hospital is pretty much in a downtown business/medical type area. It's

just a couple of blocks from the border and has a population of

something over one million. Picture all of that fanning out from the

border and Calexico doing the same on the US side and you're pretty

much smack dab in the center of a huge metropolis.

I was there the middle of April for a fill and the temps were getting

to 90 then. I just checked the Calexico forecast and they're

predicting temps of 110 for the next several days. I dunno if you'd

*want* to go out and walk much in that kind of heat. :-O I had my band

the end of January and it was about a week before I had enough energy

to walk more than 10 minutes or so and another week before I felt I

could do more than 15.

I do believe Dr. A's staff would be more than happy to get a cab for

you should you decide you want to go walkabout for awhile. ;o)

Sorry Suzi, there is no beach near Dr. A's.

I think the nearest beach is San Diego and about hours away.
