Here is a follow up email that I received from Dr. Aceves office regarding exercise and lifting weights. Hope this helps to answer your questions...

9) Exercise

Walking can start right away.

It should be the main exercise for the first 6 weeks.

Start with 15 min and increase gradually.

Walking 30 min 4 times a week is a great exercise.

Swimming can start as soon as your incisions are completely healed

6 weeks after surgery you can start lifting weights

10 lbs to 20 lbs

20 lbs to 30 lbs ( 8 weeks after surgery)

30 lbs to 50 lbs ( 12 weeks after surgery)

8 weeks after surgery you can began using the eliptical trainer.

This is good since it protects you back, knees, ankles and hips.

Start with 15 min and increase gradually.

8 weeks after you can start yoga

10 weeks after surgery you can start with abdominal crunches push-ups, sit-ups, squats

12 weeks after surgery you can start pilates

12 weeks after surgery you can start aerobics, running and jazzercise www.jazzercise.com

24 weeks after surgery you can start bowling

Congrats on your loss, that is excellent!!!

Hello All!!!

I can't seem to get this gigantic smile off of my face! !! I would have posted this yesterday as Oct 17th was my 1 month Surgiversary but my internet and cable went down and I couldn't access anything. I definitely haven't been as on my A-Game with posting as I thought I was going to be. I realize this was the best decision I've ever made (Thank goodness for all you Vets or I might have bailed from anxiety alone). I am glad that I decided to make the video log of my experience and I wish I would have thought to video record the hospital and some of the staff that were amazing!!! I still can't believe how amazing the care they give is. I recently went to see my family doctor and he couldn't believe how small the incisions were and how awesome they had healed. He took a look at the X-ray of my new stomach and was amazed! I already feel soo much better about myself.

I have had a really good experience thus far in regards to recovery. I didn't have any major/minor complications at all... I had a tiny annoyance which was that my drain hole was slow closing, but now that its closed up it looks great. I haven't eaten anything that I can't tolerate yet *Knock on wood* I tried eggs for the first time today and so far so good. I have found the Premier Protein from Costco to be a life saver and It helps me ensure that I get all my protein in. I wish I could try the other flavors as chocolate is getting slightly boring . I have found that blending ice with my Water/juice helps it to go down much better. I can't seem to get room temp water down. I also found that Nestea Zero is AMAZING!!! I feel like I have more energy most days but some days I find I am pretty tired. I am hoping that once I get back to the gym I will start to notice an increase in my energy levels. I plan to take it easy for the first little bit.. Does anyone know when you can start lifting light weights(3-5lbs) I need to start conditioning my arms again lol... I did notice late in the second week that my hair started to thin out. I was losing it in my brush, bed, and the shower... I had a lot to start with so its not such a big deal as long as it stops falling out soon... I don't want to be a bald bride haha I still don't get any hunger sensation and I often have to remind myself to eat or drink. Yesterday I didn't have alot to eat and my stomach made sure I knew it...It was LOUD all night long. I have been super diligent with the Nexium... I missed it one day and by midafternoon I was horribly nauseated... Worst feeling ever.. I haven't had the sensation to actually throw up at all.. Thank goodness because the 2nd day in Almater was enough for me...

Now the fun news!!! I started a month ago at 474lbs and as of this am I am down 41 pounds !!!! I never thought this day would come!!! Pre-op I was wearing a 32W and they were tight Yesterday I got into a size 28W without any struggle!!

I miss all the smiling faces I saw in Mexicali!!!

Hugs All....I'll update again soon!!!Cheryl

I think all the sleeve patients get a drain to ensure there are no leaks. To me, the drain was not a biggie at all. It wasn't painful at all and after 2 days it comes out which wasn't painful to remove either. Such a small thing to go through to get the great rewards from this surgery. Please don't let the drain scare you, it was not a big deal.

Good luck!!!

Cheryl,

Thank you for your post. It really helps to read about others journey. I too

have had no complications. I started walking 40 min a day the other day and was

a tad sore but goo.

I find it difficult to get all my protein in. I start when I get up and feel

like I am continually eating or drinking till bed time to get it in. ( not sure

this in normal)

So glad there are sites like this where we can share.
