They are dangerous.> -Sue I have to tell you this story! I was Hang Gliding at Plaskett Creek just south of Big Sur and the locals warned me " Don't fly over the Goat Lady's house " . I didn't know where it was, but figured I'd just avoid flying over any house I saw, so I though there'd be no problem. I launched at " Wild Cattle " and flew down the finger ridges above the trees headout out toward coast and as I crossed over some tall trees, suddenly found myself directly above a house. Instantly people ran outside and started shooting rifles and pistols up the air. I dove away as quickly as I could. Holy Crap, the locals weren't kidding! I was scared to go for another flight, but others were still flying. How would they recognize me? They hadn't seen my car and my glider would be in a bag, so there really wasn't any way to distinguish me from the other pilots. So I was driving up the road toward launch when two camoflauge painted motorcycles headed me off. The riders were in Camo gear with painted faces and had M-16s slung on their backs. They didn't approach but wouldn't let me move. Then a van came charging down the road as if it was going to ram me. It screamed right up to my bumper and stopped in a cloud of dust and the driver jumped out and yelled at me " DON'T YOU FLY OVER MY HOUSE! " I apologized profusely and vowed that it would never happen again. This barely seemed to satisfy him, and he screamed it several more times and said that if it did, their aim would be improved. What a bunch of crazies! When I told others what happened they said he was overly sensitive about his pot farm and thought that police might be using hang gliders to search for it. So, I think you can camp down at Big Sur if you are in the campgrounds and stay away from the pot farmers. But whatever you do, don't fly over the " Goat Lady's " house! -
