Guest guest
Just make sure your calcium is calcium CITRATE and not calcium CARBONATE. Nobody really absorbs carbonate well.On Sat, Jan 22, 2011 at 7:55 AM, Pam Wiedmann <pamsalamb@...> wrote: After having had the lapband and now two weeks out from VSG surgery, I can tell you what works for me. 1. They count toward your fluids, and the Tropical flavors are great. 2. Protein- I personally can't stand the powders, and they seem a little " heavy " to me. Plus...to mix up a scoop, you have end up with a pretty good sized serving. I used to mix my whey powder with a little Quick chocolate mix, and that helped. Body Fortress has a Protein whey shot that is a clear liquid, and goes down pretty easy with a straw. That's worked best for me this time. It's the best I could find as far as protein content, as it has 28 grams per shot. So two of those and some Special K lemonade mix in your water will give you your daily quota. You can get both at Walmart Super Stores or online at Amazon.com. (it's way more expensive then at Walmart though) 3. Vitamins-Try the chewables by Viactiv. The multi vitamin comes in a variety of flavors. Milk chocolate is my favorite. I also take the calcium one in the caramel flavor. They are chewy, but will melt in your mouth...and are a little like eating candy. You can find them at Walmart or on Amazon also. All of these suggestions are my personal preference, and everyone is different, but it's what has worked for me. I was sleeved two weeks ago, I've lost 13 pounds, and I've been feeling great except for last night. I made the mistake of having a glass of wine at a birthday party, and it went straight through me. Guest guest
Pam, This was some great information. There are some things that I want people to consider. This is what you said: Protein- I personally can't stand the powders, and they seem a little "heavy" to me. Plus...to mix up a scoop, you have end up with a pretty good sized serving. I used to mix my whey powder with a little Quick chocolate mix, and that helped. Body Fortress has a Protein whey shot that is a clear liquid, and goes down pretty easy with a straw. (it's way more expensive then at Walmart though) Please check out any of your proteins, not all are really what they say they are. I have found that some of these "So Called whey shots" are nor more than boiled cow hide so do a little readying--I have NO idea what the Body Fortress are like, but many of the "Protein Shots" at Wallmart are not that good. Also I noticed when I checked out "Special K" it has a LOT of SUGAR and CARBS listed on the label. You really need to read ALL the labels of the products you are using not just the number of Protein grams you are getting. With anything you use such as Vitamins, again read the labels and compare the amount you are getting vs the others. I know I used Gummy Bear Vitamins when I first came home and as I read the labels I notice I wasn't getting a lot of value compared to some other chewable Vitamins so I changed. It is all a learning process. Thanks, Pam this was a lot of GREAT information. And congratulations to joining some of us sleeve sisters and brothers!! Guest guest
Pam, please be sure your calcium is calcium citrate and not calcium carbonate. We sleevers need the citrate. Hope this is helpful to you. Guest guest
Thanks ladies for the additions to my comments. I sincerely appreciate them, and you are right...living with a sleeve is a learning process. I've read some of the posts on other boards, and some people get pretty nasty. I haven't seen that on this board. So again, thanks. I am prompted to do more research. Have a wonderful sunday, everyone! Pam > > > Pam, > > This was some great information. Guest guest
Thanks, Pattie. I have some calcium citrate in liquid form that works good!
