Guest guest
To you medical professionals out there (I know we have some RN's and at least one MD on here) - Many times when I eat (okay, probably more like when I have that one last bite too many...) my heart starts to feel like it is pounding REALLY hard. And I'll add that I really do not feel well when this is happening. I don't know if it's a heart thing, or a blood pressure thing (I have NEVER had a BP problem before but I HAVE had heart issues) or if it is something altogether different but related to my new stomach shape and surrounding nerves/organs/whatever. I will say that is does not feel like any heart event I've ever experienced which is why I'm not really thinking its coronary related. Any ideas? (Besides " stop taking that last bite! " LOL!)If it's just my body complaining about quantity, okay, but if it is something more serious that I should investigate, I'd like to know. My PCP is clueless about WLS so I don't think she's going to be of much help... Cheryl
Guest guest
I don't know what causes it but I do it too. Guest guest
I would guess that this is a kind of " dumping syndrome " where you have eaten too many carbs and your body is working hard to use them up (there's a more physiologic explanation for this, but it would take longer). Dumping happens mostly in people who have had a gastric bypass, but I " ve had similar symptoms occasionally when I eat something really sweet, like ice cream. It passes, but you are right, it is NOT a pleasant feeling. I think avoiding that last bite is actually good advice, and watching what you are biting to see if there is a pattern to it. Guest guest
I think you will find that you have soft stops and hard stops. For me, a soft stop is a single hiccup and it tells me I am DONE! If I take another bite it's lots of hiccups or a hard stop. Some have a runny nose, some have a fast heart beat, some have shoulder pain. You know the weird thing about this is that we always had a soft and a hard stop. We just were so busy eating we didn't notice. Weird, eh?
