Hi Lynne,

I left my purse and laptop in my room. I never worried about any of it. I wore no jewelry other than a watch. I have NEVER heard that anyone lost anything that was left in their room. I did NOT carry a lot of cash, but a small amount and I also used my debit card while I was there--if using a credit or debit card, make sure that your Bank knows the dates that you will be in Mexico using your card. If you don't they will not allow the charges sometimes. So don't worry about the laptop or your purse.

We also left our items in our room and never had any issues. I went for "walk abouts" several times a day because I get bored easily and because they tell you to walk and I never had any issues with anything being moved. I packed yoga pants and a t-shirt for my trip home. You will want two piece PJ's or comfy sets for while in the hospital because they check your drain frequently so gowns are kinda awkward. Our bank did chrage us an international fee everytime we used the card (it wasn't much really) in Mexico but once I called them and explained why I was there, it was taken care of.

I'm not as trusting as Suzanne, and I worried about that question as well. I gave my purse, cell phone and laptop to the nurse taking care of me. She has a locked space she stuck my stuff in during my surgery. When I came back from surgery, she was able to give it back to me immediately.

It was pretty safe there and I probably overreacted, but, better safe than sorry.

I did not go alone, my husband was with me, so I gave him my wedding ring set to hold (that I meant to leave at home), but he is not one to sit still and was out wandering around while I was in surgery with all our personal belongings in the room and nothing happened.
