Guest guest
I would get the sleeve, I know how you must feel but just think that if you got another band you might lose it again. I love my sleeve and have the peace of mind that I cannot lose it. I love having control over how much I eat, I do not think I can live without it anymore so I feel for you. The risk is a leak but you already know that you are in the best hands with Dr. Aceves, his stats are fantastic so your chances of having a problem really are small with him. This is in my opinion the most important decision to make, to have the best dr possible to reduce your risks. I am sure others will chime in with thier own experience with the sleeve, I LOVE my sleeve and think it was the best decision I have made in my life! ________________________________ From: e <jaj9816@...> Sent: Sat, March 12, 2011 7:30:19 PM Subject: From Band to Sleeve?????? I'm considering having the sleeve. I don't know enough about it. I had the band, Dr. A put the band in in November of 2008. I had lost 113 lbs. by September 2009. I was soooo excited. However, in December of 2009 I became very ill and threw up for six days straight thus causing the band to slip. It was horrible. Dr. Lambert, in Batesville, unfilled the band and suggested removal. I didn't want to have it removed b/c I loved my band, but then it only got worse. On July 4, 2010 they had to do emergency surgery to remove the band. It broke my heart to loose it. I can't maintain on my own. I need something. My husband is too scared to get the band again and is wanting me to get the sleeve. I was just wondering from those of you that have had the sleeve if you could tell me the pros and cons of the sleeve. What are the dangers of the sleeve? Guest guest
I have never had the band and it was stories like yours why not. I knew I needed a permanent tool. I chose the sleeve because everything functions normally, your tummy is just smaller. I have no adverse food reactions, except when I eat sugar or fried foods, but I don't blame that on the sleeve, I think it is because I eat so much more healthy and try to eliminate sugar that when I eat those things it freaks my body out!The "cons" (not that I consider them that) is the possibility of vitamin deficiency....but that is typical when your intake decreases. The part of the stomach that is removed absorbs certain vitamins and so certain deficiencies are more common. (I've seen a lot about B12, potassium and folic acid deficiencies.) But if you get labs done, those can easily be managed. The part of the stomach that is removed also produces the hunger hormone, so that is a positive. I never get hungry like I did before the sleeve. In fact, if I get busy I forget to eat! Yesterday I was prepping my house to get tile laid and totally forgot about eating and drinking. I had some eggs for breakfast and didn't eat again until about 6pm when I had a bite the hubby's hamburger. I guess this technically could be a "con" too because you can become dehydrated. I think I only had about 12oz of fluids, so I need to be extra careful today! Good news, I lost 2.2lbs yesterday alone with the lack of calories and all the activity!I will be 6 months and 2 weeks out tomorrow and so far have lost 103lbs. For the first time ever, I know I can loose the weight and am confident about maintaining. I am currently helping a friend of mine get the sleeve with Dr. A and would recommend this tool to anyone! Do yourself a favor and get this permanent tool! You already know what can happen with the band and you are certainly not alone. There are so many people who have to ditch the band! Don't disappoint yourself again! The sleeve totally rocks! Get the sleeve and forget about the fills/unfills, slips, etc....just live!Best of luck to you!Sent from my iPhoneOn Mar 18, 2011, at 2:34 AM, Carmen <carmen_79@...> wrote: I would get the sleeve, I know how you must feel but just think that if you got another band you might lose it again.
