Guest guest
Yes Marcie, I was diagnosed with off the charts Celiac in 2003. Probably had it most of my adult life. haven't touched wheat or oats or rye since then. Why do you ask? I have never had this itching before in my life. It started after 2 months on Iodoral of 50-75 mg. I don't take other supplements so can't think of what else would do it. I probably do have some fungus in my bhody (who doesn't) and if this is die off symptoms I am perfectly willing to suffer. but wondering how long this will go on as it's been weeks now and I'm scratching myself to the point of leaving scratch marks I have been really bad though. Been drinking tons of DECAF coffee and drinking a lot of decaf diet sodas which I gave up starting to today. Adding nuts and lost of fish to my diet. I mostly eat meat, fish, eggs, veggies and occasionally a Balance bar. Not too much fruit. that's about it Thanks! > > From: jennkramer1974 <jennkramer1974@...> > Subject: Itching > iodine > Date: Monday, December 15, 2008, 2:07 PM > > > > > > > I was reading the recent thread on itching/fungus with a great deal of > interest. Guest guest
It could be the diet soda. They have artificial sweeteners which are nasty to the body. You could also be detoxing bromide. Sounds like an allergic reaction to something. Your liver may be overloaded. Guest guest
did you have your kidney function tested recently? impaired kidney function may cause itching. bw nil Re: Itching Yes Marcie, I was diagnosed with off the charts Celiac in 2003. Guest guest
It may just be that you are reviving peripheral nerves. Here is something interesting I read by Louis Ford: " Even 1 mg per day, however, is still too high a dosage for about 5-10% of American adults to begin with. It may take months, or even years, for the millions of Americans suffering from more severe thyroid problems and/or " diabetic neuropathy " to get used to eating that much Iodide. This is because as dying peripheral nerves start being revived with more optimal Iodide levels and metabolism, for months or even years, they usually still do not function normally. Instead, they tend to signal to the brain sensations of intense itching and/or phantom pains. To help reduce these very distracting and painful problems, it is more comfortable to start with just ½ mg of Iodide per day. That is about 3 or 4 times as much Iodine as most Americans are currently getting, but it is still a low enough dosage not to overly aggravate the peripheral itching and pain problems. " (http://www.iodine4health.com/overviews/uses/ford_uses.htm) Obviously you have been able to handle a lot more than 1/2 a mg of iodine but possibly you have just started re-awakening the peripheral nerves. Maybe if you cut back on the iodine for a while, it could help until your nerves completely regenerate, if that is indeed what is going on. Guest guest
Wow now this is interesting. It tracks with Dr. Shevin saying at the conference last year, that about 10% of his patients don't tolerate iodine even in small doses. Guest guest
thank you everyone for the suggestions. that is very interesting about the peripheral nerves. Wouldn't that affect my limbs though? I have some itching on my left arm only near the elbow but most of the itching is right under my bra strap and right below my clavicle for some reasons. My entire lower torso is fine. I was thinking it might be detox because my neck started to itch and I thought maybe it's moving up and out. Y'know I just can't afford all of these tests, I wish I could. I basically have no insurance. I'm sure every one of my organs is impaired. I just feel like I can make that assumption from years of poor diet and past NSAID abuse. I have stopped the Iodoral. ly after about 2.5 months I noticed nothing positive. My hair was still falling out, I was still low energy and I look terribly gaunt now. My only hope is that by now eating healthy and cutting out all the decaf coffee and diet soda I will start to get on the track to better health. Thanks everyone for your input. I think I got so caught up in the positive things I was reading here that I overdosed myself and forgot that even something natural can cause ill effects in some people. > > did you have your kidney function tested recently? impaired kidney function may cause itching. > bw > nil > Re: Itching > > > Yes Marcie, I was diagnosed with off the charts Celiac in 2003. > Probably had it most of my adult life. haven't touched wheat or oats > or rye since then. Guest guest
I have itching sometimes too.But when I drink the celtic salt & take the vitamins tosupport cleaning out the toxins the itching goes away.I wouldn't quit the iodine.Read Dr Brownstein's book:"Iodine, why we need it"Knowledge is power.Once you have that knowledge you will feelmore confident that iodine is the right choice. Many of us have bad detox symptoms. We have been consuming bromide our wholelives and not cleaning it out.You can't expect it to leave your body effortlesslyand in a short period of time.I have have been getting better for three years now.AliOn Dec 16, 2008, at 10:13 PM, jennkramer1974 wrote:thank you everyone for the suggestions. that is very interesting aboutthe peripheral nerves. Guest guest
Irene, The itching could be a normal response to the iodine attacking fungi in the skin. I have had itching occur in areas of my skin where there are suspicious objects (usually brown spots). Some are coming up to the surface and forming scabs. After that, the skin heals up and no more itching occurs there. > > " Even 1 mg per day, however, is still too high a > >dosage for about 5-10% of American adults to begin with. > >It may take months, or even years, for the millions of > >Americans suffering from more severe thyroid problems > >and/or " diabetic neuropathy " to get used to eating that > >much Iodide. >
Guest guest
It was my understanding that thyroid increased your resistance to yeast? Also, thyroid is a hormone, but it is not a steroid. Armour also takes many weeks to build up in your system. Some people get anxiety type symptoms when they start armour. What kind of symptoms are you having?
Guest guest
I am glad to read this info. I have also had some serious itching for the past couple of months. Mine IS peripheral. Mostly my forearms & lower part of legs, but also around my waist & on my scalp. The worst part is arms & legs. I scratch till I bleed sometimes. I've tried different soaps, no soaps or shampoos, AC vinegar (both ingesting and using on skin), baking soda, epsom salt. Nothing has solved this problem yet. I take 50 mg Iodoral plus all the supporting supplements. I just cut my selenium dose in half, though (from 400-200 mcg). I am trying to be gluten free (I'm not 100%) and I do drink decaf coffee but no diet soda at all. So, I'm glad for all the info I can get here. Thanks! B God Bless America! Guest guest
actually T3 is a thyroid hormone, not a steroid. but both T3 and "steroids" are necessary for health. steroids got a bad name from the high doses that docs use, but low dose cortisol is very helpful. why are you taking compounded Armour? what dose is it? is it time release? I need 240mg Armour all in the morning, time release would make me miserable. Gracia I took my first compounded armour thyroid this morning. I developed increased yeast symptoms within the first hour. I am wondering if that is what everyone else is having problems with. T3 is a steroid and steroids are not suppose to be taken by people with yeast, it makes it worse. Now what am I going to do? Guest guest
To help minimize the " killer " itch, I have had some success with hemorroid cream containing witch hazel, calamine lotion, bicarb applied to skin, and MMS. Nothing seems to last more than a couple of hours, unfortunately. I suspect that as more and more fungi is killed, the itching problem will diminish with time. > > I am glad to read this info. Guest guest
I may try that Barb. I am also having bad sinus problems. I read about the bromide detox and they don't really mention itching per se but do mention sinus headaches which I've been having lots of. I am drinking the salt water solution a few times a day, taking Airborne and added Alpha Lipoic acid. I think I am slightly better today. My itching is just left forearm and right under my bra area and by my collarbone. The collarbone area is better today but under bra and arm itch somewhat but not as bad. Oh, I know well that diet soda is killing me. The aspartame/nutrasweet is a neuro toxin. Off and on I go through periods where I try and lose weight and drink the stuff by the litter. I never bhad this itching before but it probably is detox from years of too much decaf coffee and diet soda and things like nitrates in my diet. I am being really good now..this is day two of no soda or coffee. I figure I am going to have to suffer for a while before I get better. It really helps me to hear of other people's experiences going through detox and especially how long the detox lasts. thanks everyone!!! > > In a message dated 12/16/2008 1:45:52 P.M. Guest guest
Maybe if you knew that the chemicals in the diet soda actually cause weight gain, it would help you to avoid it!! No benefit for weight loss at all. Better to drink regular soda if you absolutely must have one. Nothing helpful in any soda. Good for you for quitting! Not easy! Guest guest
Deb-- It is my understanding that hypothyroidism can cause and/or make one much more susceptible to candida--so in that sense if you are hypo it is very important to treat it if you have it if you are suffering from candida! I have candida too, I got rid of it once but now it is back again, so I know what you mean. I am very curious to see any sources or articles you have stating that armour is bad for candida, because I have read the opposite. If there is another perspective, however, I would like to see it. Guest guest
Deb, also Armour thyroid does not list that as an ingredient, so it's probably something your pharmacy is adding? Here is a list of ingredients from Armour's website: The Armour Thyroid product available from Forest Pharmaceuticals contains: 1. Thyroid Powder, USP 2. Dextrose, Anhydrous 3. Microcrystalline Cellulose, NF 4. Sodium Starch Glycolate, NF 5. Calcium Stearate, NF 6. Opadry White (titanium dioxide used as a whitening agent) > > I would agree that thyroid medication is a hormone also, but when you > goggle Liothyronine sodium (which is the first ingredient in my > compounded armour thyroid it comes up as a steroid. Guest guest
I do not think you are taking compounded Armour, rather you are taking synthetic thyroid hormones. Liothyronine is cytomel or T3, that is the "feel good" hormone that our bodies are supposed to make. why not just take Armour (doc won't Rx it?) IMO you would have to take enough iodine and Armour to get rid of yeast, since it is a common hypo problem. that's what worked for me. why did you decide on 2 drops of Lugols? natural steroids are needed to live! steroid should not be a dirty word but they have been misused by the drug industry. why synthetic T3 is called an anabolic steroid I don't know! Gracia I would agree that thyroid medication is a hormone also, but when you goggle Liothyronine sodium (which is the first ingredient in my compounded armour thyroid it comes up as a steroid. That is neither here or there as the problems is that people with yeast should not take anything with steroids or hormones in them. It will really aggravate the condition and make the yeast grow. Itching is a classic symptom of the yeast going crazy. Believe me I have been doing this for three years. I guess my question now is. What do I do? I can not take the compounded armour thyroid. I currently use 2 drops of Lugols daily. My Free T3 was the only thing that was low. I am caught between a rock and a hard place and I am not willing to increase the yeast to help with the thyroid. Anyone that has had candida will appreciate that. I would not wish candida on my worse enemy.ThanksDeb No virus found in this incoming message.Checked by AVG - http://www.avg.com Version: 8.0.176 / Virus Database: 270.9.19/1853 - Release Date: 12/17/2008 8:31 AM
Guest guest
Hi again! In regards to the information I posted before from Louis Ford, about iodine possibly causing the itching due to re-activation of peripheral nerves, peripheral nerves are not only those in the hands and feet. They are all throughout the body, all nerves except for those in the brain and spinal cord. Here is the Wikepedia page on the peripheral nervous system: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peripheral_nervous_system And two, to help you stop drinking diet soda, here are a couple of tips. One, did you know that artificial sweeteners actually cause you to gain weight? http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2008/02/26/artificial-sweeten\ ers-once-again-linked-to-weight-gain.aspx And a great substitute for soda is carbonated mineral water with sea salt added. You need to take the sea salt anyway and this is a very enjoyable way to do it. I use 1/4 teaspoon in a 16 oz. bottle. You can add a little fruit juice or natural flavoring if you like but I like it plain. HTH! Val > > I may try that Barb. I am also having bad sinus problems. Guest guest
Hi Jenn, This one is decent. My husband switched to it, and he was a coffee addict. He adds cream and Whole Foods vanilla stevia. I used to like Roma, but I forget why I didn't stick with it. I find some flavors of Teeccino are acceptable, but I still think the Dandy Blend is the best. I had quit coffee all together a long time ago, and only recently have had some on and off for the past year or so. The Dandy Blend has a very good flavor, and I think the only thing that would make someone go back to coffee is the addiction/adrenal rush part of it. Our Wholefoods in Princeton, NJ, doesn't carry it. I am thinking of asking them; maybe they will. I get ours from a small local health food store. You can order it on line. They have single cup size packets, maybe you could order a few of them to sample it before buying a container.
