I am a YOUNG mother of 4 and have been struggling with my weight for the past 13

years. I

have decided to have the surgery with Dr. Aceves but am not sure which surgery

to do? They

have given me the option to do the lap band or the sleeve. Which one would you

prefer and

why? I really appreciate your help. I also am very scared of leaving the states

for surgery.

Don't get me wrong though, I am totally ready and counting down the days.

I can tell you that if I had it to do over again I would certainly get

a sleeve. I'm banded now but considering changing to a sleeve.

With sleeves the initial surgical procedure has a bit more risk but

after 30 days the sleeve has drastically fewer complication rates than

banding. No fills, no unfills, no restriction issues, no port pain,

no port infections, no band infections, no erosion, no slips. After

you are done with surgery you are done.

With bands it is less invasive, reversible, cheaper, easier recovery.

Sleeve surgery is more expensive but aftercare is cheaper. Banding is

less expensive surgery but much more aftercare. Six of one, half

dozen of another.

With banding if you have a severe slip that cannot be repaired

surgically or erode, you switch to a sleeve anyway for the most part.
