Hi, I am new to this group, and I hope you may give me some answers.

I work at a dental lab, that is growing mold on the walls like some

sort of science project! Last month, about 10 of is bought a mold

test kit and sampled the mold that is growing under my work bench.

Mostly to protect the owner/boss from one of our co-workers

immediately calling OSHA when he saw the mold (he's a fairly new

employee and hasn't seen the owner with the wrath of OSHA on his

back.) Short story long, the sample came back as positive for

Cladosporium. I have asthma and have been tested for allergies, with

a high allergic reaction to cladosporium.. We as a group, went to the

boss, explained the situation and our health concerns, and he was mad

as Hell!!! Why would we test it on our own instead of going to

managment with our concerns?? We have done that 100's of times to no

avail. Well we got their attention. They are sending a " OSHA

Consultant " that they have hired to protect them from having the real

OSHA involved in anything. (They were fined $20,000 last time they

were called out.) He is going to test for mold--- to tell them if it

is COMMON OR UNCOMMON MOLD!!!!!!! We all know cladosporium is one of

the MOST COMMON molds around.

This fine Monday morning, Nov. 15th, I went to work and sat at my

workbench. I smelled bleach!!! Guess what? Bleach gives me an asthma

attack. Within minutes I was wheezing and grabbing for my inhaler.

Minutes later I felt a migraine headache coming on.I went home at

9:30 A.M. I'm sick-the boss doesn't care,how do I get help? One more

thing-- they're going to paint over it with KILZ then wall paint

after it's " tested " . Other parts of the lab have blue-green and black

mold growing under leaky sinks. This room smells so bad of mold it

takes your breath away. We couldn't muster the nerve to have it

tested. PLEASE, I NEED ADVISE AND HELP. MY HUSBAND AND I CANNOT

AFFORD TO LOSE OUR JOBS AND OUR HEALTH. Thanks in advance, Sheri

Yeah sounds like my workplace. The dang wallpaper was loose next to where I

sit, so i peeled it back and exposed the mold, took a pic and sent it to

management. well today, someone said that modl behind the wall paper is fine as

long it is not disturbed. I said the wallpaper was already loose so it was not

a problem to show the mold to them.

They claim to be cleaning the air handlers and the like too.

I went to a workers comp doc today and he says return wo work with restricitons,

Avoid Mold is one of the restrictions. I dont see how in the hell I can go back

there and avoid mold when it is hiding everywhere. Yet they say there was no

mold spores in the air quality tests.

Yeah makes me mad too......

[] mold at work

I started talking about mold at work in Jan. this year. Someone came

in a couple months back and the safety guy for this department had to

call over and over to get info and today two men with State Facility

Management and safety guy came here today. I was so pissed in one

minute I left the building. I couldn't stand there and listen to

more people talking stupid. Nobody read the paperwork! State Air

Quality guy first said on ceiling tiles condensation probably caused

that. These guys did too and laughed to the safety guys saying they

could spray paint them. I totally lost it and am having a bad day

with weather and sitting in here. Safety guy said test came back as

mold on the dock, DUH!!!

Safety guy said they are going to use bleach and clean areas of the

dock and I know part of what the mold is on is porus. I know they

won't be using any containment. Pulling down ceiling tiles and

spreading everything ETC. Going to do this when we are closed. Told

safety guy the spores are everywhere producing mycotoxins and asked

if he understood that? I don't think he does but did give him the

Ebook about mold. Said impossible for the air handler and ducts to

not be contaminated b/c spores are circulating thru the air intake.

They don't want to hear that.

Told safety guy my doc wants me out of here and any re-exposure is

very bad for my health. He talked about disability again and I have

to be out 60 days before that is approved. He is checking into after

one year another type of disabilty with State and is going to get

what my percentage would be. The first year is the problem with 2

months no pay also. He does know how mold has affected me.

The Fac. Management men mentioned the plants in here could be a

problem. Minute if any in my opinion. Then mentioned

dust....DUH...the place has never been cleaned in 25 years I've been

here. Thick dust. I know the dust is driving me nuts but isn't

causing brain lesions ETC. that mold causes. Was not told what type

mold yet. I came back in before they left but said nothing. I have

just had it with this place. I'm sure they will pull all these

ceiling tiles down and let everything fly. These two men are the ones

doing the cleanup. Said been in other buildings with people having

same type symptoms. Will keep you posted.

I'd think no mold spores would be impossible. Rhonda

isn't that just insane, who do they think their fooling. lets see,

takes hazmat suit to deal with, you can get sued for fraud by selling

a home with mold problems and not discloseing them. it's been proven

that some molds can produce toxins, and proven that they can be

detected in indoor air. effects from being poisoned by chemicals are

well known,I know someone with MCS from working with chemicals at his

job but they say this cant happen to us. and the only ones tooting

this horn are the ones afraid of the cost of haveing to deal with it.

money, money, money, thats all it boils down to. than if you are made

ill from it, it takes money, money, money to prove

it.

You could take a tape lift and send it in to be analyzed.. Don't count

on them to tell you the truth.

Have a disinterested third party visit you at work, take a tape lift -

when nobody is looking, then fill out the chain of custody form and

mail it in to a reputable lab...

Also, if it is making you sick, please do yourself a favor and get

another job.. You only have one life, don't waste it.
