Hi Sharon,

I am soooo much for sharing about your plateau. I am 6mos out and down

82lbs. I have been at 238 since 9/19. I haven't lost even 1lb since then! I'm

worried that I'm done losing!!!!

Any suggestions???

Sweetie,

Just relax, you are far from done! I know it is so very hard to

believe now, But it is true. Try upping your protien, water and

exercise, that is the only thing that did it for me. That and

relaxing (or trying to). It just seems to work somehow. Your

weightloss may slow down, but the samller you get the more the 1lb

losses show. I know this to be true as the smaller I get the smaller

losses show up alot more than the big ones did at first.

It isnt easy , but relax, it will happen.

Sharon,

Thank you for the encourgement - I know I've heard it plenty of times from

others but I get afraid that I'm going to be " the one " . The one that stops

losing after 6months. I have been eating badly the last couple days - sugar,

sugar - I will take your advice and up my protein, water and the exercise!! I

will kick this plateau's butt! Today, tomorrow or the next day - it will

happen...........or else........I'm not sure but I'm gonna get it!!! :)

kasey- I have found that it is fairly normal for weight to plateau around 4-6 months post-op. Ask, 1) is pt still getting enough protein? adequate calories? 2)exercise habits-daily walking a must 3) are they eating or drinking too many calories 4) starting to pick up bad habits, snacking, empty calorie foods 5) remind them that surgery is a tool not a magic cure. They must be proactive for best results. Good luck -cheryl

Kasey,

Plateaus are very common at any point post-op. Sometimes the body has to adjust to the "new regime," if you will. Patients need to be sure they are consuming adequate protein as well. Otherwise, third spacing of fluids can result and edema in the lower extremeties. Make sure patients are eating at regular intervals throughout the day to keep the metabolism revved. Finally, fluids and sodium content of diet have to be considred. Some people have a difficult time consuming adequate fluids (sugar-free no or low calorie).

Hope that helps.

Hey,

I know how you feel. I was stuck at 55lbs for 4 weeks. Could not figure out what

was going on.Then all of a sudden i got up one morning and got on the hateful scale and

it was moving. Then it kept moving. I lost like 5 lbs that weeks!! Few days later got up and another pound was gone. So give it time..

I would get mad and say I sure wasnt plateauing when I was gaining!!!

Congrats on what you have lost so far.

Hey band family,

Just a few short weeks agao I wrote how excited I was to reach onderland. After my second fill 10 pounds fell off. Now I'm still sitting at the same weight . I keep seeing people I haven't seen in a while and they are so complimentive, but I feel rotten because I'm stuck! I had to visit my regular doctor yesterday because my menstrual cycle is nuts. I've been having a period every week. My emotions are getting on my nerves! My doc said for me to take progesterone for 10 days and give my body a reset. Anyone else had this problem? Anyone else been stuck?! I think I've read people say a plateau is common at around 50 lbs and I'm sitting at 47 and feeling rather like a baby for not being happier. Is it the emotions or the plateau or both? Thanks for letting me whine...you guys are my only people that could

possibly understand.

Evaluate what you are consuming. Are you drinking enough water? Getting enough

exercise? If all of those are in line maybe you simply need a fill.

Hi, - any time we have had no loss for 3-4 weeks in a row,

it's time to re-evaluate things.

See the document here in the files, called " Fills - when do i need

more fill? " .

It has a checklist of things to think about, to see where the problem

may lie. if all on the list seems pretty good, then it may be time

for a bit more fill.

If your fill seems ok and you are having NO problems with vomiting,

sliming, pb's etc (that might indicate your fill was TOO much and

that is why you are not losing), then you might be interested in the

2-week " plateaux busting diet " that works so well for most people.

let me know, if so.

Try this. .

****

Breaking a Plateau.

(Being stuck at one weight for more than two weeks)

Got this from a bandster posting.

#1 - Do this for 10 days to break a plateau

#2 - Drink 2 quarts of water a day

#3 - You must have 45 grams of protein supplement and all your

vitamins/minerals supplements each day (some suggest at least

60 - 80 grams).

#4 - You may consume up to 3 oz of the following high protein

foods, 5x a day

beef

pork

chicken

turkey

lamb

fish

eggs

low fat cheese

cottage cheese

plain yogurt or artificially sweetened (?)

peanut butter

beans/legumes

You may also have:

sugar free popsicles

tea or coffee

sugar free jello

broths/bullion (sp?)

crystal light drinks

#5 - If it's not on the list, you can't have it for 10 days!!!!

#6 - Keep a food diary and try to get up to 30+ min of

exercise 4-5 times a week.

Thanks, ! I've seen this before, and used it as a basis for my

PBD, but with many improvements, imo.

However, This type of diet is very high in protein, so very hard on

the kidneys. it is basically ok for some, but those with diabetes

should be certain their diabetes docs allow it. It cannot be safely

used by everyone.

a plateaux is really defined a being at a stable weight for more than

3-4 weeks in a row. We never lose at a steady rate, and periods of

stalls up to a month are common and expected.

since high protein and very low carb diets like this are also unsafe

for extended periods of time, they must be used very cautiously.

I have recently completed a semi-formal study of a plateaux-busting

diet that showed excellent results in about 80-85% of those who used

it for the 2-week period allowed and safe.

It is not too diffeerent than the below diet, but there are no limits

in food, no fluid limits (we need MUCH more than 2 quarts of fluid a

day, routinely)and a few other significant differences.

since beans and legumes are 100% carbs, they are NOT allowed on my

PBD. It is the combination of temporary high protein and low carbs

that causes fat to be pulled fom the liver, and subsequent weight

loss.

Anyone wishing more info on the PBD, just ask.

I'd be interested in the 2 week plateau busting diet. I've been

stuck for many months now and seems no matter what I do it isn't

coming off. I've been in for a small fill but that jogged the weight

a few pounds and then back to plateau again. I'm still

perimenopausal (seems like forever) and have to wonder if hormones

have anything to do with it. My body just seems to like where it's

at...however I still want to loose another 50 lbs. No issues with

pb, gerd, etc....

yes - sent . good luck!

It is basically the same as the pre-op LSd that many ocs do, but is

more liberal.

General info for all:

it may be done for 2 weeks max, an maybe every 3 mo or so. It does

NOT substitute for needing a fill, or not putting in good effort in

the ways WE must contribute!

I'll put it in the files later today, for anyone interested.

How long have you had this Holly? What type of sauna are you using?? Also, how often are u able to sauna? I have been using is morning and night. It is making my skin feel so soft. The one I ue penetrates the skin, but doesnt heat the room as much as the older ones--I am not sure if it is any better than the others, but they claim to be. I can tell a difference, because I used to sit in a sauna and bearly break a sweat--but would get to hot to stay any longer. It has made a world of difference to me. Did you notice more breakouts when you first started, I think I mentioned to you that my skin became just horrible after the first 4 days, but now muc better--although still have some places on my legs that still look pretty bad.

I bought mine from clearlight sauana. I beleive they even have a dome that you can lye in kind of like a sleeping bag. There are different companies out there, investigate the different infrared heat. I would nt get one with a stand alone heating unit because it is only heating the room--not penetrating your skin. The reason I chose clearlight is they are the only ones that have combined carbon and ceramic heat into one. I didnt buy the cedar from them so my price was for the heating units alone $1500, but that is for a 3-4 man unit..--I already had a room that used to be a sauna but was covered with ceramic tile, so I had a maintenance man come in and rebuild it with cedar. Just make sure you dont get anything that only heats the

room--skin penetration is most important

Hi Holly,

You might want to search for an internal treatment to use in

conjunction with all the other things you are doing. Anti-parasitic

herbs or miracle mineral solution are two things that come to mind.

Also grapefruit seed extract, goldenseal powder, Oregon graperoot, red

clover, calcium pantothenate, L-carnitine, borage oil, milk thistle,

and ginko biloba may help you, but not all at once! I had good

results from the miracle mineral solution but stopped taking it after

about a month because it was bothering my stomach.

I have a lap-band patient who has hit a plateau for the past 5 months. She is eating 1000-1200 cals per day, adequate protein of at least 60g most days, exercising about 20-30 minutes 3 times per week. What do some of you do to get weight loss started again? My surgeon suggested the pre-op liquid diet to jumpstart the process but I'm not sure that's appropriate. She doesn't seem to be doing very much exercise. She probably needs to increase frequency, intensity, and duration, as well as start weight lifting to build up muscle - more metabolic tissue. Any advice? Thanks, GreigSent from my BlackBerry® wireless device from U.S. CellularFrom: "jenniferangus76" Date: Thu, 30 Apr 2009 18:14:03 -0000< >Subject: Re: probiotic supplements Thank you very much. I've used Glutapak R inpatient but it is quite expensive and wanted to find something easier to find and more economical. I appreciate your help and i'll definitely look into it. > > > , > > Solgar makes a powdered acidophilus product. > > > > > From: jenniferangus76@... > Date: Thu, 30 Apr 2009 16:50:03 +0000 > Subject: probiotic supplements > > > > > > > > I generally use probiotics during the pre and post, and was wondering if anyone is aware of a otc powder or liquid (not food source) that is easy to find.
