Guest guest
Hi , I haven't had anything done. I have done some paper work and sent it in and that is just about it for me for now--waiting to hear back from them. I have a friend who did this and I know that is what movtivated me. She looks fabulous and don't we all want to have this. She is in Health Care also and I really trusted her judgement too. So that is how I got started here. I have a question why did you pick the band over the sleeve? Would it have anything to do with the cost of it? Just wondering, because I haven't really made up my mind yet. Suzanne -------------- Original message -------------- From: "truenorth1993" <truenorth1993@...> I'm scheduled for the band on Sept 19. I work in the healthcare industry in Alaska and have insurance that does not cover these procedures. I was apprehensive at first, mostly because of feedback from co-workers. Like many of you, I did my research and am confident that Mexicali is an excellent hospital. I've read many of your testimonials and message posts and am excited about starting my journey.I will be buying the liquids for my post-op diet this weekend along with the recommended chewable Gas-X and Imodium. Is there any advice you can give me that might not be covered in the info I got from Nina?
Guest guest
Hi Suzanne, I chose the band because I felt it was the least invasive and had the shortest recovery time. I also read up on the sleeve and felt that it wasn't the best choice for my needs. I think the band will give me the head start I need to succeed. I've been working on eating healthy over the past year and changing my attitude towards food. Right now, my biggest problem is that the extra weight I'm carrying is putting undue stress on my back and knees making it difficult to maintain an exercise regimen for more than a few minutes at time. I finally feel that I'm ready to concentrate on becoming healthy! > > Hi , > > I haven't had anything done. Guest guest
Suzanne, I just wanted to say that I have the band. I chose it for all the same reasons did and I do not regret it. The fills are an additional issue, but I like checking in with a local doctor to make sure I stay on track and healthy. Even if I had gotten the sleeve or bypass I would want after care. Also, I've had 3 fills now and am in the green zone. My fills have cost me 677 dollars to be exact, so I've still spent less than the sleeve. I don't think there is a right or a wrong answer when you are chosing... everyone is different. The decision to take the step and commit is half the battle. I choose the one that felt right for me and I wouldn't change my decision for the world. I was banded march 15, 2008 and thus far I have lost 60 pounds. Good luck with your decision. I'm happy to have you on board. From: trainedforlife@... <trainedforlife@...>Subject: Re: Scheduled in two weeks Date: Friday, September 5, 2008, 2:41 PM Hi , I haven't had anything done. Guest guest
Hi , That all makes a lot of sense. I know for me the exercise takes a lot of effort. I try right now walking 3 days a week and we walk about 3 miles when we walk. Having someone to do it with makes it a lot easier too. You have your head in the right place and you are going to be successful. I guess I have been leaning toward the sleeve, because I don't want to deal with the fills and the healing around where they fill and if the band slips then it has to be redone. I will do a little more reading and see what I can figure out. Thanks for your information. Good luck and you will do great keep posting on here so we can see how you are doing. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for the information. I go back and forth between what is right for me. There are pros and cons to both of these. I keep think I want something that is the least invasive and for me right now it appears to be the band. Having a big part of my stomach removed it pretty permanent. So the band in looking much better and I will do more research. I also know that there happens to be a doctor here in the city that I live in that does the fills, so I am really lucky on that part of the procedure. As I have read some people don't have that much luck returning to their home--no one local to do the fills. It seems that some have to go quite a ways to have the fills and that is sad. We all want to be at the healthy weight and feel better. I am lucky because my life partner Bob has been so very supportive of me doing this. I wasn't sure how he would feel, but he trusts my judgment. It is nice when he s ays to me that they loves me no matter what, fat or thin...now that is true love isn't it--and he didn't say fat I said fat. I really appreciate everyone's point of view and I really am taking it all in. I will keep listening and look at my schedule and figure out a date that I can have this done. Have a wonderful weekend and stay in touch. Suzanne --------- Re: Scheduled in two weeks Date: Friday, September 5, 2008, 2:41 PM Hi , I haven't had anything done. Guest guest
Hi there, I was banded on august 19 and seem to be doing well. I personally would of liked a better pain relief after surgery for the trip home, I seemed to be in pain more than other girls were. I actually just stopped the pain meds (vikidan) a week ago. Two per day was enough though, morning and evening. Be sure to stock up on the chicken broth and sugar free jello. I have been somewhat addicted to the sugar free candy too, but I have decided that I am going to slow down on that. I am just so used to eating something all the time. Three weeks out and I am just now really healing. I am down 20 pounds and off most of my diabetes and highblood pressure meds. Mexicalli is awesome and you will have a great experience. ANYONE what does " pb " stand for when mentioned in responses? Im not sure. Good luck with everything!! DOB 8/19/08 189/169/130 > > I'm scheduled for the band on Sept 19.
