Guest guest
I had the sleeve done and don't see ANY downside. One thing is for sure, it's permanent and you have to be aware of that;i.e. you can NEVER stuff yourself with your favorite food anymore. Just aboiut 2-3 oz is all you will be able to get down, after that the stomach is full and will let you know it .The food just just comes back out without vomiting. You will soon ,however, get to know your limit. Should you ,over any amount of time it more than you can, then your ststomach will stretch again. I spoke to a woman( Rolly polly as an otter) and she admitted to eating more and over time the vtomach strechted and she is as heavy as she ever was. So, make up your mind to listen to your body and you will be fine. NO upkeep,NO nothing. The first few weeks of liquid diet etc. are the same"uglY" but manageable. Good luck and opt for the sleeve because you want a permanent loss and then that;'s it. I can havea lap band done here in my city for $12,000 that includes all theaftercare, fills, etc... Or I come to Mexico and have a lap band for$7500 but have to travel a lot for fills, etc Or I go to Mexico forthe sleeve for $9500 and not worry about the fills. I attended a lap band support meeting tonight and was struck by allthe maintenance issues, ie fills, defills, PBs, vomiting, etc... But Idon't know a lot about the sleeve and what some of the down side is. There has to be some down side to this too. I want to make aninformed decision. Thanks for any input! Guest guest
well, the sleeve has a little better weight loss, faster weight loss, and no maintenance. Considering your location wouldn't that be an easier option long term?On Thu, Jun 19, 2008 at 7:25 AM, breeze_anita <abreeze@...> wrote: I have the following choices in front of me and am stuck and am wondering with your experience if you can give any insight. Guest guest
This decision is one that you must make on your own. I didn't have a choice, as my insurance wouldn't consider wls. After using Dr.Aceves, I'm very satisfied and wouldn't hesitate using him again or referring family to him. All that said, you must decide what is best for you and your family. Guest guest
No, it is not easy to do. The OLD technique it was very easy to stretch your stomach but today they are saving a more muscular portion of the stomach and removing the elastic portion. The sleeve has a bad rep because of the way they did it in the early 70s, medicine has come a long way in 40 years and the technique is much different from those days. Guest guest
Productive Burping, it's GROSS, but basically when you over eat and then it just comes right back up when you burp! Guest guest
I have had my sleeve for 3 months now and have not experienced much down sides to my sleeve. I have had too much to eat or ate too fast and had it come back up but its not really that bad. You learn fast and you don't repeat. You also have to factor in the time and travel it will take for you to get your fills for the rest of your life and ask yourself if that is something you want to do. It was not something I could see myself dealing with. You also loose a little faster in the beginning with the sleeve but I hear it all evens out in the end. Guest guest
I don't have a sleeve but one issue I worried about is the immediate restriction. With my band, I had gradual restriction, it kind of gave my head a chance to catch up with stomach. If I had walked out of surgery being able to only eat what I eat now. Oh my goodness, I would have been miserable. The band allowed me time to reduce what I ate gradually and kind of "catch up" with it all. Just a thought to torment anyone trying to make the decision. :)PS, You have to remember I have had NO problems with my band, I've had 3 fills and I'm at perfect restriction. If I had had port or band issues, I would be singing a different song Cyrena 240/138/150start/now/goalwww.cyrenaweeks.blogspot.com
