Outside air, think bigger

Hi Barb,

The various small air cleaners are jokes to me. I had them, but you

have the right idea about keeping the windows open. I had a number

small aircleaners in the house along with three small dehumidifiers,

but after my son had his asthma attack last year Oct 15, I hooked up

a six inch line from the outside to the suction side of my furnace

and set the furnace so the fan was running constantly. This changed

our house's humidity levels very greatly, the three little

dehumidifiers running 24 hours a day were also jokes when compared

what bringing in fresh outside air did. Not only that, my son's

constant stuffed up nose, nightly coughs, and monthly wheezing went

away overnight. This before we removed the mold in our walls and

carpets.

We did install a new heat pump and now have an air to air heat

exchanger with its own whole house HEPA filter. But simply sucking

in cold outside air was inexpensive and highly effective. We did

also put a MERV 11 furnace filter in at that time.

Here is a link for an air to air heat exchanger with whole house

HEPA filtration for just over $800. It can be easily installed on

the suction side of your furnace and removed when you move out, or

as a stand alone until you move into another house.
