Guest guest
We have two Hunter HEPPA air cleaners that are still going strong after six years. We used to have a Honeywell brand but it pooped out in the second year and was a bit too cumbersome. Gaylen

Guest guest
Has anyone tried that " Living Air Classic " they always advertise on radio? It claims to have no filters and be superior to typical air filters , but then how does it work? Just wondering out loud...... We live in the mountains and have all kinds of lovely allergens floating around all year long. Becky > We have two Hunter HEPPA air cleaners that are still going strong after six > years. Guest guest
We have the Ionic Breeze in our bedrooms as well as the playroom. Although still has trouble with allergies, especially this time of the year, the filter, which I wipe off every other day, is covered with black particles as well as dust in that short amount of time. I would have to say that it works pretty well! We also use an Oreck Air Cleaner on each floor of our home. It's a little loud but the air definitely smells cleaner with these on. Hope this helps. Guest guest
I use Austin, in NYC, and 1) I have to buy a new cartridge every year or so. They last five years in a clean environment only! You do get a discount if you get one sooner 2) You need to clean the prefilter. Take it out, run warm water from the bath tap over it and make sure its clean then let it dry and put it back in. I need to do this with my large one 3) YOu need to wipe down the dust that gathers on the outside > > I have two Austin Air Cleaners and during this allergy season I was having terrible trouble with allergies and after trying a number of things, finally tried turning my air cleaners off and problems I was having stopped. I can't believe it! How could it be that my $500.00 air cleaners would be exaserbating my allergies, rather than helping. The hepa filters and charcoal cartridge in them would only be a year old. I think they say it should last 5 years. Is it possible the filters need changing already??, or perhaps do 'you' think air cleaners are guilty only of churning up the air. I was not sitting near them. > They emit a slight sweet smell, like sweet almonds or something, have zeolite and activated charcoal filter and hepa filter. Guest guest
Thanks Jill. I will take these measures and try again. The way the prefilter has to be changed is one thing I don't like about the Austin, since machine has to be put upside down which is difficult for me because I find them heavy and screws are hard to line up to put back in, but all in all like the Austin. > > I use Austin, in NYC, and > 1) I have to buy a new cartridge every year or so. Guest guest
Since room has a 'smell', sweet smell, doesn't that mean that there are charcoal particles in the air? I'm pretty sure the sweet smell comes from activated charcoal since some masks I bought from " I can breathe " that have activated charcoal in them have same sweet smell. From discussions we've had here before it seems that when we can smell something it means that particles of that substance are in the air. I wonder if it is healthy to breathe in small particles of activated charcoal 24/7? Anyone have a thought about this? I know it's okay to swallow activated charcoal but I wonder about breathing it 24/7, as it would be inhaling small particles. I noticed this when I first bought them but I figured I'd wait to see how I feel but actually thinking back I haven't been doing significantly better since I got them, although they do take care of odors when they happen. > > I have two Austin Air Cleaners and during this allergy season I was having terrible trouble with allergies and after trying a number of things, finally tried
Guest guest
Same thing on the AllerAir. Its super heavy and sometimes I find it very hard to put it over on its side to replace the filter. It has worked great but I will be looking for something lighter in the future. barb1283 <barb1283@...> wrote: Thanks Jill. I will take these measures and try again. I've learned not to freak out when things change overnight-one day I'm good and the next day I can't breathe-it's always the filter that I check first and change. Guest guest
I have to change my filters in my air cleaners almost monthly(very expensive). I like this explanation of disturbing dust & spores; I'm going to turn mine off for a while & see if it helps w/symptoms, so thank you for this info! Hugs, Cheryl finally tried turning my air cleaners off and problems I was having stopped.
