Hi ..Just had to answer this

we love The Cracker Barrel and always liked to be near the fireplace...usually a

big open one capable of large logs.

Since MCS and Chemo....we are unable to sit within 30 feet

and somedays we can't stay.

Even the smoke outside affects us as we park.

The heatilator system does have a glass door etc which is fairly

effective once the fire is going. The fans suck air from around

the steel box...so smoke is usually not present.

Opening a window about 1/4-1/2 inch helps to bring in air to burn

and assist the chimney.

Hope this helps.

Can a person use one of those built in glass enclosures to protect

the air?????? I think they blow hot air out into room though, don't

they?

I hate to give up on the fireplace. I usually only burn it around

the holidays and through Jan/Feb, i.e. coldest weather. However the

air in house has been 'smelling' so much cleaner and fresher since I

started this project and this week I'm coughing and air smells

smokey made me think about it. Of course it was smokey because

damper closed by accident. Chimney guy said to stick a brick up

against damper to make sure it stays open. It could have ruined my

wallpaper/lamp shades, etc if I didn't catch it right away.
