This one is really something. I know the Santa Ana winds in CA carry spores

- these fungi are from Africa and land in the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean, and

Southeast, etc., causing sea life to die.

So there are areas that are worse than others for fungi - that would

certainly support what some members here are saying.
