Guest guest
My sympathies. There is a book that is in paperback but perhaps your library has it. The Mold Survival Guide for your Home and your Health by May and Connie May. He addresses what to do about furniture. I think he suggests something you can clean 'back' of piece and what to use for surface. He is talking about removing mildew. I think visible mildew, not toxins. He suggests using isopropl alcohol , rubbing alchol, on back and bottom unfinished part of furniture but read the precautions about using alchol, etc. Then he says to seal it after it dries completely* with clear shellac of some sort. He said if you have mildew on finished part of wood, use something suitable for finished wood. If that doesn't remove it, then check with a restorer for guidance. Can you put it in room not being used and open a window with fan vented out for awhile to see if it just needs airing out? Like isolate it. He says just sitting in a chair alot can dampen the chair enough to grow mold. It gives a whole new dimension to the nightime problems of 'night sweats'!! I think he is saying if relative humidity is close to ripe for mold, your body could raise it the amount it needs to start growing mold (and dust mites),etc Yuck. If relative humidity isn't close, then I doubt your body would do that. Talk about humidity, the humidity in my house is 75% right now. We've been having non stop rain after record snow. The dehumifiers are not keeping up with this old 'leaky air house' shainaraisa <shanaraisa@...> wrote: The last year of my life was spent in mold hell. Long sad story, that is still not over. Well, now in a new location, I wanted nothing from the old location in my bedroom, so I needed to buy new furniture. Although I love antiques, I decided that they were not wise as I am now at the uppermost end of sensitity ( The environmental consultant I used claims I am much more accurate than any test out there). Well, the nice newly constructed armoire I purchased smells of __________________________________________________
