Congratulations Colleen! Woo hoo! freedom!

You will adjust to your new look. It will get better over time, too. And feeling better will be worth it all. Be patient, be good to yourself.

Hi Colleen,

I am reading about explantation, but I am very uncertain. Of course,

I want to gain my health back, but I am also concern about the look

after the explant. I have had them for 6 years now, and I was told

by the couple PS that I consulted that my breast will look horrible

if I don't replace or do a lift.

Did you have a lift? How is your skin now? Are the wrinkles going to

be gone? How are you doing in health? All the symptoms gone?

Judy.

Judy,

I was explanted in March 2003 after 10+ years. Most of the PS that I consulted said the same thing - that I would be unhappy without replacement or a lift. I decided to take the chance and I am very happy with the appearance of my natural breasts. Very little sagging and because I've gained a few pounds since implant I am still a size B-C. Unfortunately, my PS did NOT remove any capsules. He told me my body would take care of the capsule itself. Well, my health has improved, however, I am still experiencing various problems as a result of the capsule still being there. Now, I am faced with possibly another surgery to have the capsules removed.

My advice to you is don't worry about explant without a lift - but to fully regain your health back I would definitely recommend demanding that your PS removal the capsules as well as the implants.

Good Luck and God Bless!

Hi Judy,

I too was concerned with the way I would look...but I was so sick that I was bed ridden, so that over-rode any concerns with appearance I had. I never developed a right breast, which is why I got implants to begin with...so my right breast looks the same, there is just a nipple with the scar...my skin didn't stretch at all, no wrinkles or anything. My left breast was a small B before implant, now it is a full B, just from the skin stretching. It is a little saggier than before, but I don't have any wrinkling. My surgeon told me that it has alot to do with your age and skin elasticity.

I didn't have a lift. Because I didn't have a breast to begin with, there wasn't anything to lift. I was so sick, the surgeon just wanted to get my implants out and get me well before we talk about any kind of reconstruction. He talked a little about a procedure where they use tissue from your abdomen or back to reconstruct. I don't know much about it, but I'm going to look into it for a possibility later.

As for my symptoms...I noticed immediately that my vision had improved. Also, the past couple of days, my energy level has improved a little. So far, that's it, but it's only been 8 days since my explant surgery. I can say that it feels good to have them gone. I never realized what a weight they were! I'm much more comfortable now.

I've heard of alot of women who had lifts and are happy with the result. Don't worry, you'll make the right decision. Even if you get them removed and aren't happy with the result, you can always have the lift later! Good luck! Keep me posted.

Colleen

I am really sorry to hear that the capsules were left in you upon explant. It sounds like you've seen some improvements, which is good, but I guess there will always be that question about the remaining symptoms if you know the capsule is there, right? Are you going to schedule another surgery just to have the capsules removed? What kind of problems are you still experiencing?

Patty,

What really brought this to my attention is that I have a large lump at the top of my left breast. I do not recall this being there after my explantation in March 2003. My right breast seems to be fine. I had a mammogram last week and the procedure was VERY painful on my left breast.

I plan to see my regular MD on Monday to discuss my options and further testing (possibly an MRI or ultrasound). My overall health is much better since explant, however, my tissues on my entire left side from my waist up is senstive and tender at many spots. I pray that this lump in my left breast is scar tissue and can be removed with another surgery. Please keep me in your prayers.
