URGENT - PLEASE FORWARD TO OTHER LISTS - DEADLINE NEXT WEEK

27 July 2006

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of women and community advocates who are gathering at Toronto in

August for the AIDS 2006 conference, our organization, Women's Equity in

Access to Care and Treatment (WE-ACTx), working with other groups, is

organizing visual signs for the upcoming Women's March.

We contacted some you earlier about any information you had on women deaths

related to violence and stigma of HIV/AIDS.

We are now writing you again now because we have expanded our work and want

to highlight the lives and names of other HIV-positive women leaders and

community advocates who have passed away.

We will be honoring them throughout the Toronto conference, and your input

and any information you have is absolutely invaluable toward our success.

We plan to list women's names on signs (11 x 17), with images of some of

these women (those who were openly HIV-positive).

Can you help us?

Please, send us the names of 20 women you wish to honor. We are not limiting

this to prominent women, but to any HIV-positive woman who was open about

living with HIV (hence, whose name can be publicly disclosed, posthumously)

and who made a difference in the lives of others battling HIV/AIDS.

We want to assure diversity from around the world - so please, distribute

this posting widely so that we can make sure to honor many women.

We will also create an online In Memoriam archive of this information that

will be shared with the community, and done in collaboration with ICW and

other HIV-positive and women's networks.

Information sought:

1. Name of the woman's country of origin

2. Name of the woman

3. Date of her life/death

4. Information on cause of death (AIDS/ lack of access to

treatment/stigmatized violence, non-medical (car accident, other).

5. Any picture or news clinpping you have of them.

We have a deadline of Wed, August 3 to put as much of this together before

Toronto . TBut we will continue gathering names and may be able to add other

names after that date.

Therefore, please respond to us as soon as possible.

Jordan Steiner, a WE-ACTx interm, is collecting this information for us.

Please send information to her at: jjsteiner@....

(Fax or tel ok if email replies are not possible. Fax: 415-648-4932 Attn:

WE-ACTx.

Please let her know if you have any questions, or need clarifications on

this matter.

Thank you again.

In solidarity,

Anne-christine d'Adesky
