Guest guest
Heterochromia is most definitely not a natural occurence which is why I was so worried when we first noticed it. The opthalmalogist told us the cells in the iris do not form correctly during gestation. It can be an indicator of serious systemic abnormalities or disorders like Waardenburg's syndrom, Warner's, and many more, which is why it should always be checked by a specialist. He did say that most of those things are diagnosed at birth so it looks like everyone here is fine health wise and just very special like my grandson! His eyes are quite beautiful as are those in the photos you all have posted. I wish we could find a common link as well. It can be inherited, but his is not as no one else has it. It is his right eye that has the secular heterochromia, hazel/blue, and he was born in August. Left eye is blue and both parents have blue eyes. We live in the Midwest. Very advanced...very cute! Any other commonalities? > > Hello Everyone, > > After seeing all the beautiful photos of everyone's eyes, I felt > compelled to add one of my own and have done so. Guest guest
In biology class in college while we were studying genetics I asked the professor why my eyes were two-different colors. I don't think he knew. He said I could do an extra credit project if I could tell him why. I read about diseases that can cause it, but none of them seemed to apply to me. In recent years, I have learned that the darker colored eyes contain more melanin. When other more serious conditions for different eye colors in one individual are ruled out, perhaps the difference in the eye color can be likened to areas of our skin that have moles or freckles, some areas of skin are lighter than others. Those areas of skin with freckles and moles contain more melanin than the lighter parts of skin. The darker colored eyes contain more melanin. In any event, if we do have something in common, perhaps it is that we are special and nice people chosen by God to be noticed a little more than usual and receive a little extra attention by others who wonder about our eyes. As a result of this special gift, I think we need to work at living up to the honor of the attention we receive by being extra nice to others in return. That's what I think we have in common. After all, the eyes are the windows to the soul. These are my comments from my peanut gallery. Big hugs to you. > > > > Hello Everyone, > > > > After seeing all the beautiful photos of everyone's eyes, I felt > > compelled to add one of my own and have done so. Guest guest
Kittie, yes, my eyes have been this color all my life. My mother asked the doctor about it when I was an infant and the doctor told my mother they would most likely change as I got older, but they stayed the same. Thank you. Your daughters eyes are very beautiful too.
