Beth,

It sounds like you are having a reaction to the implants, as these signs and symptoms are classic, and your time frame seems to be very common as well. If you take a look at one of our polls, you will see that the majority of respondents started getting strange health concerns in the first 6 months or so.

/surveys?id=813417

I myself had my implants for only 9 months, and they changed my health permanently for the worse. I was a health freak before I got implants, and never got sick.....I mean, not in the 10 year period prior to getting implants did I have even so much as a cold. My implants have been out for over 5 years now, and I was diagnosed last summer with Hashimoto's autoimmune thyroid disease (finally got a name for it). However, in that 5 year period after explant, I gradually regained my health to the point that I could live pretty normally again, and got my energy back. While I was at my sickest, I was a total mess, with no energy, and a laundry list of symptoms. These all went away after explant.

Other women have gotten their implants removed and got better and have been lucky to have no abnormal blood work. It is hard to say what your chances are for totally healing, either keeping the implants and doing a silicone detox, or getting the implants out and doing a total detox. The only advice I can give it to seriously consider completely removing the implants, as they are going to be nothing but trouble at this point in time. In other words, they are not going to do anything positive for your health, only continue to be a source of trouble. If you want the best chance possible to get your health back, your only option will be to remove the implants, and get onto a program of detoxing and health promotion that will assist your body in returning to its former state of health. Gradually you will more than likely see these symptoms go away. So many of us have.

Good luck, and we're so glad you joined our group and are seeking health.

Hugs,

Patty

Subject: Help! New to group, lots of questions

Hello everyone, I had had saline implants for about 6 months now. I've been experiencing some unusual physical symptoms for me. First, I started having heart palpitations a few weeks after surgery. I thought it was probably due to all the meds, etc. I finally saw a cardiac specialist who said my heart was fine and I was just having PVCs. After stopping all caffeine they did get better. Next, I began experiencing tingling in my arms and legs about a month ago. I am trying to get in to see a neurologist as soon as possible. Also, I have contacted Dr. Kolb's office in Atlanta. She mentioned something through email about a Silicone sensitivity test I could have. Has anyone had this test? What does it do, etc? If I decide to explant, what are my chances of returning to "normal"? Has anyone done a Silicone detox and kept their implants? I'd appreciate anyone's responses. I really don't know what to think, am starting to wonder if I've done something very horrible to my body by getting the implants. I just wanted to look like I did when I nursed my kids. Please respond,:)Beth

Hi Beth.

I had my implants removed almost three weeks ago. I started getting sick a couple of years after getting implants. It started out with mild symptoms like light fatigue, dizziness, heart palpitations and it just kept getting worse. I ended up being bed ridden for years with severe joint and muscle pain and extreme cognitive difficulties (I could hardly hold a conversation and had very poor memory). Now that they are gone, my health has improved 100%. I am walking a mile daily and my brain is so much clearer now.

It sounds like you are having problems because of your implants. Your symptoms are like many women with the same problem. You could just continue to get worse the longer they are in your body. You have to decide if it is worth the risk to you to keep them.

I had the silicone sensitivity test done and my levels turned out to be higher than the doctor had seen in years. I would recommend having the test done. I think it helped me in getting my insurance to pay for my surgery and in finding an attorney.

Good luck and keep me posted.

Patty,

Dr. Shanklin sent me for my test. With my results, he gave me a letter explaining them. Here is part: " ...a Western blot assessment of autoantibody formation and the T cell test using the lymphoblast transformation method to rank the current cellular immune memory to siloxanes. " Does that make sense to you? It is a test that Dr. Smalley, Dr. Shanklin's partner in the Silicone Research, developed. I'm not sure if women who are tested by other doctors receive the same tests or not. I'm sure Dr. Shanklin could enlighten you if you'd like to call him.

Yes, that is the number for his front desk, which is the best place to leave a message. He is teaching this week, I know, and might be hard to get in touch with. FYI his direct line is 901-448-6343.
