Stopping Lexapro

Hi ,

I don't know the answers to all your questions but have an opinion in the

Lex. Maybe you won't have such bad withdrawl because it is a newer class med

and

is better with side effects?

I would try to follow your doc's instructions as much as you can - I hope it

is not too bad!

Thank God you're ok. That had to be one of your most

scariest 20 minutes in your life. I'm glad for you

that you have another med. to fall back on.

To folks with natural remedies when weaning off Lexapro - Omega 3 and B vitamins

are a great help. And even when you're taking lexapro, they should be in your

diet. I really noticed the difference.

Remember all, your reactions with lex are going to be different from everyone

else's.

I've been taking lexapro for 4 months now. I had heavy side effects the

first two weeks, and I haven't experienced what I had hoped an anti

depressant could do for me. Worse, I'm coming to realize that my scalp

and head are extremely tense and often create a headache that makes me

tired. Is there anything natural that would help offset this

experience. I'm taking 20mg of lexapro and usually take it before I go

to bed or 1st thing in the morning..

Thanks,

Mostly headaches, but dehabilitating anxiety, and ability to think

clearly. Panicky at times. I was lucky my brother-in-law was staying

with us as I was useless for a couple of days in being able to make

decisions and manage the house.

You could try a product called Xango (pronounced

Zango). It's from the Mangosteen fruit. It has been

know to help with a lot of medical conditions. You can

access the web site at Xango.com and probably find a

distributor in you area. If you can't find one let me

know and I'll hook you up. Other wise I'm sure there

will be other people here who can suggest other things

to help you with that.

Maybe the scalp thing is an alergic reaction. I don't

know. Look on WebMD for a list of side effects and

other ADs that might be more to your liking.

yes, the really bad symptoms were the 1st week. I am just trying to

deal with the stress headaches now and the fact that I'm really not

benefiting much from the medication.

well, hang in there. the fact that things have gotten

better since the 1st week could indicate that your

body is getting used to it and that maybe it will work

for you after all. see what your doc says.

I take it for OCD but it's Pure-O, I don't have the physical traits of the

'usual' form of OCD.

Well. I have to ask: Has your doctor ever taken these kinds of drugs? Most

doctors spout what amounts to nonsense when it comes to the sides and the

withdrawal of these kinds of drugs. Just ask anyone that's tried to come off

cold-turkey, even at a low dose.

If I had a dime for every post I've seen that states a doctor said such & such I'd

be retiring, comfortably rich!

I'd love to see a thread here about what our respective docs have said about

stuff and the reality of what ocurrs when one is actually taking the drug.

My doctor said that if you have been using 10mg Lexapro a day that

you don't have to wean yourself off the pill. Just stop taking

I have " fired " many doctors over the years. My main complaint is that they

wouldn't listen to me. I finally found a wonderful doctor and her wonderful

nurse who actually listen to what I say and actually care. She hasn't spouted

nonsense to me like some of the other doctors I've had in the past. As far as

Lexapro she told me in no uncertain terms not to just stop taking it or I would

get weird electrical sensations in my head. She also said that some people gain

wait on Lexapro and some people lose it. I was so glad when I found this doctor.

I've had her for about seven years now.

I wouldn't recommend going cold turkey off of 10 mg of Lexapro. Even

for the 10 mg dose when they have you start they start you at 5 mg for

a week first. If you have to start it slowly, wouldn't it make sense

to come off it slowly?

I had to go cold turkey off of Lexapro a while back and it was the

worst thing in the world. The depression came back multiplied.

That's a docmented side effect of going off Lexapro cold turkey.

Any drug that messes with your head you should come off slowly.

I don't want to stop taking Lexapro. My doctor suggested it. I feel

great on it and see no need to stop. He did say to just stop, but

from what I've read here that's not a good thing to do. How do you

stop without withdrawal symptoms? I don't intend to stop unless the

doctor says there are long term side effects however. Barb from Calif

I first want to thank all of you who gave me the support I needed

through emails. My son is off Lex, and is grumpy, frustrated,

miserable, lethargic and downright mean (as usual). It is unfortunatate

that we were not able to see any positive effects of Lexapro. For now

we will try therapy, and continue testing him for other imbalances in

his system. Maybe down the road, we will try a different med for him.

For those that are interested, I will post an update (if there ever is

one!)

So, in reference to stopping Lexapro, I have started the process with my

daughter. She started with 5 mg and took it for a month and a half.

She has done so well, that I have cut it back to 2.5 mg. 3 days later

she showed some signs of anxiety, and I just forced her to use her

techniques she has learned through therapy to deal with her anxiety,

rather than upping the med. She seems to be back to " normal " now, and

I figured this morning would have been the true test, when dropping her

off at school. So far so good. I haven't checked with her doc yet, as

he initially said 1 to 2 years (!!). I guess Ill keep giving the 2.5 mg

dose, and then stop altogether. Any thoughts on that?

Thanks,

Marie

If she shows any withdrawal you can put her back on the 2.5 and gradually cut

her down from there.

Good luck! Please let us know how things are going? :-)

Keep her Doc. on the loop about what is going on.

He/She should always be involved in this process in

case something goes wrong. Maybe your Doc. can

recommend something else to be on if Lex is not a good

match.

I am currently taking Lexapro, however I lapsed in taking it for about

4 days (ran out). I did notice problems stopping. I felt dizzy and

light-headed. The feeling got worse with each day... I started back

up again, it is working for treatment of my GAD, but my DR. indicated

that if i were ever to go off i would need to ween off of it.

good luck.

Thanks. I feel I don't really need it and plan to quit but maybe I'll check

with my doctor first. I appreciate the input.
