Guest guest
Hi Crystal, I copied this from a site that specializes in drug interaction and herbs etc. XANAX (ALPRAZOLAM) and ST JOHN'S WORT EXTRA STRENGTH (ST JOHN'S WORT) Severity: Moderate Description: Taking ST. JOHN'S WORT and BENZODIAZEPINES may cause the benzodiazepines to not work well for you. If you take St. 's Wort and also take benzodiazepines, the benzodiazepines may not work very well for you. Some examples of benzodiazepines are alprazolam (Xanax), clorazepate (Tranxene), and diazepam (Valium). If you are not sure if you are taking a benzodiazepine, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Your doctor may change the amounts of medicines you take. Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including vitamins and herbs. Call your doctor if you are not getting better taking your medicine, or if you feel worse. The name of this site is drugstore.com. I often look up any drug interactions I am doing. It is especially bad to combine St. 's Wort with SSRI's. So no St. Wort if you are taking Celexa or Lexapro... Hope this helps. dagmar > > > Hi all, does anybody know if it is okay to take Xanax and St john's Wort?? I am trying the St 's as my last ditch effort before I try the Lexapro or Celexa, and I'd like to take a small amount of Xanax from time to time as my anxiety is up and down. I am hoping that somebody knows about this. > > ! > > Crystal > > > -------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------
Guest guest
St. 's didn't work for me...I have GAD...and panic attacks...I should say had...small amounts of celexa have taken care of it for the past year and a half... St. s has been reported to help those who suffer from mild depression...but a xanax once in a while does help with anxiety....and should be used unless the anxiety becomes so acute and so long lasting that the xanax is no longer the answer....then an antidepressant may be the way to go...that was my case...and although the side effects were horrendous I was able to adjust to them after a long while , with the help of people on the celexa board.... on this board, people are reporting good results with Lexapro for anxiety and are very supportive.... I monitor this board in case I feel a need to switch to Lexapro from Celexa and others here have been tolerant of that...... keep in touch.... amanda ____________________________________________________ IncrediMail - Email has finally evolved - Click Here

Takin SJW with pretty much anything isn't a good idea. SJW acts as a mild MAOI. -jlh
Guest guest
It is also VERY important to tell your dr you're on SJW before going on anesthesia, it has veery bad interactions. My personal opinion...don't touch the stuff. > > It is especially bad to combine St. 's Wort with SSRI's. > > So no St. Wort if you are taking Celexa or Lexapro... > > Hope this helps. > > Takin SJW with pretty much anything isn't a good idea.
