Guest guest
I stay on this list for a friend as she has no internet access. But she was not on Lex at the time she started but she too gained 20 pounds over time on Effexor and then serzone before going to lexapro. Didn't gain anymore but could not lose even an ounce even trying with the omegas...She is now on paxil and that's a whole other story but is doing South Beach and has already lost 4 pounds. Her doctor agrees it is the medication but is confident South Beach will work!!! Weight Gain on Lexapro > I began 10mg of Lexapro in December. Guest guest
I gained weight on it - but that's because I got " happy " and started eating more - even when not hungry lol...have to invest in some duct tape so I don't get depressed over weight gain. Seriously, am going to pay more attention to what and when I eat - I've already lost what I gained, so I know it's possible...13lbs - good luck tori
Guest guest
Yes, I agree with the gain in the abdomen!!!! new member Hi all! So glad I found this group. My name is , I 34 years and I've been on lexapro for 10 months. I suffer from mayor depression and anxiety and the pill has done wonders for me. Even though it has affectd my sex drive, (lower) I just don't think I could ever stop taking this pill. I tried to wean myself off of it, but the results where not nice.. I fell into a deep depression, I had anxiety attacs at night, my fear increased, I was very, very irritable and I could not sleep. So I'm on it again. I feel good now but my biggest concern is this: I have gained at leas 15 pounds since I started my treatment. I exercise 4 times a week and now I am really being careful with my eating habits.. I'm not losing any weith, it seems like I keep gaining and I retain so much water as well. Does any body experience anything like this? Thanks and Love to all. ------------ --------- --------- ------
Guest guest
Yes, the abdomen is the main area for me too!!! Does anybody know about an alternate drug? From: Barbara <bjarrettmydllurth (DOT) com> Subject: Re: new member Lexapro@groups .com Date: Monday, 7 July, 2008, 2:40 AM I did the same thing on Celexa, the parent drug of Lexapro. It's known to happen to some people though with the Lex it seems less common than with the Celexa. The only solution is to switch drugs. Barbara new member Hi all! So glad I found this group. Guest guest
I had much less weight and energy issues with Effexor XR. In fact Effexor, for me, was like flipping a switch. Suddenly I felt normal again. Barbara new member Hi all! So glad I found this group. My name is , I 34 years and I've been on lexapro for 10 months. Guest guest
My friend, after trying many antidepressants over several years, finally went on wellbutrin, and managed to actually lose weight. I had much less weight and energy issues with Effexor XR. In fact Effexor, for me, was like flipping a switch. Suddenly I felt normal again. Barbara new member Hi all! So glad I found this group. Guest guest
Wellbutrin is another one that has much less weight issues associated with it. Only problem is if you have anxiety it can make that worse. It's also better if one has energy issues as well. Another thing to keep in mind, if anyone has RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome) the only AD out there so far that doesn't seem to cause an increase in RLS symptoms is Wellbutrin. Barbara new member Hi all! Guest guest
So, so far Efexor or Prozac would be two I'd be interested to try. I'll give myself a month to experiment with weight management and exercise while on Lexapro. I started on July 1st. - Calorie count (between 1200 and 1500 per day) and my normal exercise routine along with twice a week personal training. My current weight is 150 lbs and should be at 130. I'm only 5'3 " and my BMI is very high for my height. I'll keep you posted on my progress, if any.
