Why didn't you start at 5? Can you try decreasing it for a few weeks

at least, til your body adjusts?? Ask your doc. That's how a lot of

people start, on 5 then up it to 10 if they can tolerate it.

i had the same experience..my first two days taking 10mg i felt

wired also..i was talking very fast and overlly hyper. i had trouble

sleeping also. i am now on my 4th day and i feel normal. i am

also not sick to my stomach and not very thirsty like i was. i think

you just need a few days to adjust.

Hi Karla! I had virtually no sides from the Lexapro and it's really been

great for me!

The only thing I had was sort of a zombie-like feeling for about a week, but

it went

away. Matter of fact, last week I tried to go up to 20 mgs from 15 and that

same

out of it feeling hit me like a brick, LOL. I don't know if the fact that

I've been stressed

and exhausted due to circumstances in my life has anything to do with that

though, I

am sure it does. Anyway, any more questions you have, fire away... I'm going

to bed

now, but hopefully tomorrow I can be of more help. Take care!

That zoned out feeling seems to be one of the side effects of Lex, as

I have been reading from alot of posts of various groups such as this

one.

One thought about increasing medication is to inch up with the drug

instead of jumping from 15 to 20 milligams. That may be a hugh jump

for you. I use the liquid version of Lexapro to inch my way up

slowly so the side effects don't pound me.

Thanks Dana! That thought did cross my mind about ramping up too quickly. I

just forgot what a

huge effect it might have, 5 mgs doesn't seem so much, but with the Lexapro

which is strong

in comparison to Celexa it needs to be inched up slower like you say :)

Maybe I will try to go

up to 17.5 first and see what happens. Lately I have had the daytime

sleepiness in a big way!

As a matter of fact, I just woke up after a long nap from 9:30 til 12:00 and

I still feel so sleepy.

I am a born night owl, and I do find myself waking up late at night, around

11ish and I'm up til

sometimes 2 or 3. This is a huge problem as I have to get up at 6:30 in the

morning to get the

kids off to school. It would be nice to get to bed at a decent hour so that

I could get something

done during the day! It's really bugging me, I'm seriously thinking about

trying some Wellbutrin

added to the Lex. Anyway, thanks for the reminder Dana.

Hugs,

Crystal

You might want to inch up 1 milligram at a time and since Lex has a

half life of 25-30 hours you will want to stay at that for about a

week and see how you are dealing with that 1 milligram increase. It

may not seem alot but it can actually tip the scales if you go up too

fast, unless your pdoc instructs you to do so.

Also, as far as the sleepiness, I can completely understand. I have

slept away the last 60 days due to my strength on Lexapro. Since I

have decreased mine from 10 milligrams down to 8, my daytime

sleepiness is decreasing. It usually takes up to 5 days to see any

remarkable difference, per my pdoc. I also am incorporating walking

on a treadmill during the day to help ward off that sleepiness.

I have been getting to bed around 2-3 am every night and I believe

there is a reason for that. When 24 hours is up, I start to feel

energetic as my half life of Lex is lifting. I sorta wake up and

don't feel sleepy for bed. So, when I take my medication at 10:00 pm,

at 10:00 pm the following evening my fog starts to lift and by then

it is really time for me to go back to sleep. I have tried to take

the Lex around 6:00 pm but for some reason that does not work, why I

couldn't tell you.

Hope this helps :)

I too was diagnosed with mild depression alongside the GAD. I am on

my second day of Lexapro, and am hoping that it will help. I really

want to get back to my old more confident self... " sigh "

I have already after one day felt the dry mouth and nausea, is that

normal? My MD says that it will be like that for the first week.

What dose did your MD put you on? I started with 5 and moved to 10 after a week

and did not have any side effects.
