Complaints that silicone breast implants caused health problems led to their removal, but some new studies indicate that the products are safe.

The Food and Drug Administration is set Tuesday to wrestle with the issue of silicone breast implants. An FDA panel will take up an application by Inamed (IMDC, news, msgs) to reintroduce the products.They were taken off the market in the 1990s after many women complained of significant health problems they said stemmed from their implants. Many critics still contend the implants cause problems when they leak.
