Guest guest
Hi Tammy I've been on Lexapro for about 5 years. I was scared to take it because I had previously taken Prozac (and became allergic to it), tried Paxil and Effexor and had the " can't sleep " side effect. However, for me personally, the Lexapro is awesome. I started taking it half of a 10mg in the morning, and it made me a tiny bit drowsy. Second day I took a whole pill and I was fine. Now I take 20 mg. a day. Never had any sleep-related problems at all. Main thing with these drugs is you can't stop them cold turkey! I take generic Librium which is a mild tranquilizer, usually once a day in the AM and there is no problem with it. Good luck and keep us posted! Carol new here please help!! Scared to take it Hi Im new here. my Dr. just prescribed lexapro and I am scared to take it. I currently take xanax but that just isn't working anymore and my Dr recommended the lexapro. I was just wondering if someone can give me some encouragement to take it I know everyone reacts differently to different medication. I never took something like this before, just Xanax. My son takes celexa and it has been wonderful for him. I am afraid of the insomnia as a side effect, but maybe if I feel better and am not so anxious about it the medication will help it to go away. I don't sleep now anyway so I guess why not give it a try, right? The other side effects I can deal with I guess. I hate not sleeping i just feel worse all day and exhausted. My Dr also said I can take the Xanax with it, does anyone do that? If so how much/mg.? How long does it take for the lexapro to work? I would like to be happy again for Christmas, and also get a good night's sleep! Thanks so much, Tammy
Guest guest
Hi, I take a combination of medications. I started taking lexapro about 4 months ago. I have long term sleep issues and was nervous too. I take all my meds at night a couple hours before my bed time. I feel like lexapro helps me get into a mentally relaxed place where I can sleep. I like it a lot. Everyone's experience is different but it worked for me. ________________________________ From: Tammy <vitzie@...> Lexapro Sent: Saturday, December 13, 2008 5:44:56 AM Subject: new here please help!! Guest guest
Hi, Tammy! As was pointed out, everyone is different and we all react differently to each drug. First, the Lex should help and maybe even by Christmas. Some people are helped from the first pill and for others it can take from a week to 4 weeks. The wait is worth it though which ever 'type' you turn out to be. Second, Xanax and Lexapro are two entirely different drugs and can be safely taken together. Third, if the Lex makes your insomnia worse, and that is a possibility, you can try taking it in the morning rather than evening. You'll find many people taking AD's have to time the dose for what works best for them, morning versus night. In the long run it should help with the sleep issues. Fourth...umm..... .... ... Ok, yeah. I think that was it. ;-) Good luck, post when you need to, post when you don't and let us know how you get along, will ya? I hope you have a wonderful Christmas. :-) Barbara new here please help!! Scared to take it Hi Im new here. my Dr. just prescribed lexapro and I am scared to take it. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for responding. I went to the pharmacy today, and found out my insurance won't cover this because there is no generic available, and it is $110.00 for a 30 day supply SO.... My Dr. gave me celexa instead, which he said is very similar. My son has been taking celexa for 18 months and it has done wonders for him. The Dr. said if something works for 1 person in the family it is usually well tolerated also by others in the immediate family.. so we'll see. thanks again ! Guest guest
Tammy, You can ask you dr. to write the script for double the dose and take half and it's cheaper. I take 10mg Lexapro and my insurance wouldn't pay for it, so I found out from the pharmacist to have the dr. write the script for 20mg and take half daily. My bill went from $100/30 day supply to $50/30 day supply. Might want to check into it! I was scared to start Lex as well and am so glad I did! It has changed my life! > > > > Hi Tammy > > I've been on Lexapro for about 5 years. Guest guest
Thanks , That is a good idea, Im sure my Dr would do that, I think he would even give me samples if I asked. Im going to try the celexa 1st, only because my son takes it and it works great for him.. so that makes me feel a little bit better about it, and I only have a $10.00 co pay for a 30 day supply. If it doesn't work for me I will try the lexapro > Tammy, > > You can ask you dr. to write the script for double the dose and take half and it's cheaper. Guest guest
I take Lexapro 20mg and Klonopin (.5 twice a day), same family of drug as Xanax I believe and no interactions. I had insomnia on the Lex, but I was taking it at night, so I switched to morning and it doesn't bother me. I'm currently trying to get off the Klonopin. ________________________________ From: Tammy <vitzie@...> Lexapro Sent: Saturday, December 13, 2008 5:44:56 AM Subject: new here please help!!
