Actually, the number of Candida strains is over 1400, at least that is the highest number I have seen a reference to (from article: " A total of 1,407 Candida strains of different species were tested,") ) http://jcm.asm.org/cgi/content/abstract/37/12/3856

Who knows how many there may be? Candida Albicans is just one, and there are even variations of IT. (see the following:)

in immunocompromised patients we are seeing an increase in the non-albicans species such as Candida glabrata, C. tropicalis and C. krusei. The problem most associated with these non-albicans species is that for the most part they are intrinsically resistant to the available oral antifungal medications. There are several different strains of Candida albicans, some of which are also intrinsically resistant to available medications.

It just sounds like treating candida is hard in any form. I have heard of people going to extreme measures, including ozone therapy and radical diet changes. One woman I wrote to said she cured her candida by eating nothing but raw meat for 2 years. I can't fathom it.

Pam,

I posted a brochure I scanned, then converted to text. . . There are a lot of books that have a lot more information, but I think you'll get the idea from the brochure. I think I named it Candida Brochure. I wish I could have posted the pictures, but I couldn't get that to work properly.

I'm doubting there are 80 kinds . . . I saw an article that said 80 something or other . . . and now I'm thinking I got confused and was thinking it meant candida. .. I can't carry a number across a room! I do. But I'm confident that there are at least 30 kinds.

Regardless, it's something that can cause a host of problems if it's not managed.

Hugs,

Rogene

Pam,

I don't think we can know how it all works. I used to be very, very healthy. I took all kinds of vitamins, I NEVER, ever got sick..I mean I'm talking 10 years before my implants without a cold or flu or anything. I never missed work for being sick (spraining my ankle, yes, but not ever sick!) I don't know if it was my healthy constitution that made my body fight the implants too much or what, but whatever the case, it doesn't jive with your getting sick all the time and being on the vitamins too. I think we all just are biologically unique, and we have something in our genetic makeup and environmental toxic load that makes us poor candidates for implants.

However, I had one doctor explain it to me this way. He said our immune system could be thought of as a bucket, which slowly gets filled up with the toxins our bodies dump--deal with--and eventually it gets filled to overflowing and that is when the disease process starts. Maybe implants are the straw that breaks the camel's back. Maybe we've reached a point where our immune system just can't handle any more foreign objects. I don't know...the only thing I do know is that before I had implants I was incredibly healthy, and after implants, I have never been the same. I'm feeling great again, but I am not the same woman. I'll always wonder how my life would have turned out if I had never had implants. But, I will never know. All I can do is praise God for bringing me through the trial and giving me a joy through suffering that I have never known before.

Hey ladies, I've read a lot about Candida. I did spit in a glass of water and after 15 minutes it was floating and looking like a jellyfish sort of, so that means I have Candida I guess? Don't you have to have some signs of a yeast infection? I haven't had one of those since before I got the implants - except possibly 1?? But, I think that one may have been bacterial. I used to get them all the time, but not anymore. In fact, I don't know if I told you all this, but besides the "flu or virus" I had 3 months after getting the implants, I did not get sick. Before I got them, I would pick up everything my kids had, anyone in my office had, a stranger down the street, everything. I was sick no less than 1 time a month. After the implants, I was so fatigued and went to the doctor (3months after) and he told me to start taking 3-5,000mg of VitC per day along with VitA,E,Calcium,BComplex, etc. I took them without fail every day. Could I have caused my immune system to work so hard at trying to kill the implants and therefore make my illness much worse than it would have been? If someone already answered this one, I apologize. You know how the brain fog is!Any thoughts?Pam
