Guest guest
Hi , Welcome. I totally understand your frustration with all the fatique etc. When I was a grad student, years ago, in the days before SSRI's, I was like you. I was a tired, depressed, stressed, and had all kinds of anxiety. I hope my experience can reassure you. I eventually got on an antidepressant and things mellowed a lot. I was able to control my test taking anxiety and pass my Comprehensives and defend my thesis. Afterwards, I became a college teacher and my own experience helped me to understand my students. So many of my students (I was a history teacher) knew the material, but, when test time came, they froze. I always encouraged them to come to me with their concerns so that I could work with them. I often had my class do deep breathing exercises before test taking. I realize, taking your certification exam, may not lend itself to this. But, you can learn some good stress reduction techniques to use along with your Lexapro. Lexapro has been shown to significantly reduce anxiety. I think, once it " kicks in " , your depression will lift and your anxiety will be better. If, after 6 weeks or so, you don't feel better, I'd recommend going to a good psychiatrist who is well-acquainted with psychopharmacalogy. BTW, my Dad was a Judge, in Tyler, Texas. I know how stressful court reporting is but I also know how fulfilling it is as well. Dad literally adored his court reporter. Not to mention, she made a darn good income! As for your problems passing the certification. Hey, you aren't alone! Do you know how many lawyers have had to take the Bar Exam several times? One of the best Federal Judges I ever knew, who was renowned for being a great jurist, had to take the Bar 4 times before he past. He obviously knew his stuff...betcha he just had test anxiety just like you. Keep posting so I'll know how things are going. OK? I'm retired now, but I still am something of a teacher LOL...love to give advice to students. Take Care, Sasha
Guest guest
What a compassionate response, thank you. Surely our society can think of other ways to measure knowledge than just tests, I'd like to think. Boys (in general) prefer hands-on learning and apprenticeships rather than paper and pencil test-taking. Can't we devise more practical measurements? Say, a good-tasting cake rather than a test on how many teaspoons is in a tablespoon? Hmm, well I guess there are some classes that are doing this. My son had a " practical " exam in his metals class last term. He had to make something in class during the test time. He loved it. Good luck to you, . ----- Original Message ----- From: " sasha " <camelbackcat@...> > Hi , > Welcome. I took Paxil for a couple of years and personally had no problem getting off and onto another SSRI. HOWEVER this seems to be a very involved subject. I ENCOURAGE YOU TO USE GOOGLE AND THE To fully investigate the different problems people have had getting off Paxil. Here is an informative site with NO advertisements etc. http://www.quitpaxil.info/ I am no Doctor, but your Doc's response seems overly simplistic (the same type of answers I get from my Doctor!)WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS GENERALLY ARE DIFFERENT WITH DIFFERENT PEOPLE! BOOM BOOM BOOM!!!! anyway that probably sounded wrong me saying I am gald I am not the only one. I feel bad if anyone went through what I did with a few drinks.. but feel better cause you know It can be confusing about what is going on body wise . what else do you notice? alison On Wed, 02 Mar 2005 01:36:42 -0000 " sherryaperez " <sherryaperez@...> writes: > > > o totally. Guest guest
Most of the side-effects reduce or disappear in 2 weeks for some folks, a little longer for others. It takes about 60 days become fully effective, though benefits can be seen in the first several weeks. As a short term intervention therapy, six months is a minimum duration. I don't know what the maintenance dosing is for indefinite treatment. I would think that it's lower than 20mg, though. Guest guest
I'd guess maintenance treatment is 10 mg, since that dosage is the lowest there is without cutting the pills. Guest guest
From what I've read on this board Lex is a very good AD to be on. Reactions vary from person to person. Keep in touch with your doc. about what you're feeling. If it doesn't work for you then tell her but give it a good amount of time to work. Some people have gained weight with it. With me, I'm so fat I couldn't tell if I did from that or not. ak --- Patty <pje123@...> wrote: > Hi all. I told my doctor that I have high anxiety > and she gave me a > sample of Lexapro? Guest guest
Hi Kathy, I'm kind of new here as well, been on Lexapro for a month. It really sounds as if we are a lot alike. ) I have panic attacks, anxiety, depression, severe pms, mood swings, hostile/compulsive thoughts etc. The first week on Lex I felt great, just a little tired and yawning a lot. Now, I'm worse and have the compulsive thoughts and depression etc. back full swing. My doc has advised I go off Lex and try something else which really upsets me because compared to other SSRI's, this has very minimal side effects for me. I've been taking a very low dose of Ativan too and that doesn't help, just knocks me out. It's very hard to find a happy medium somewhere but I know everybody can. Hang in there and I hope the Lex works for you.....many in this group have great success with it and my brother and Father swear by it. Feel free to write to me whenever you like too.....it helps to have support from someone who's going through something similar. Take care, Cyndi On 11/4/06, klchobirko <klchobirko@...> wrote: > > My doc. put me on Lexapro yesterday for anxiety and depression. Guest guest
Give it some more time for your body to adjust. If you can't deal with things then talk to your doc. He/She may either add another med to deal with the tiredness or change it. ak --- ems654321 <esheatx80@...> wrote: > Ok, I am new to Lexapro. I have been taking it for > 1 week (10mg) for > anxiety. Guest guest
I was starting to have problems leaving the house. I was feeling very paniky. Most of my problems were obsessive thoughts. Those seem to be fading but I am still having a hard time facing the day. I get very anxious and can not sit still but I do not want to do anything. How long before this starts to feel better? Guest guest
sorry to hear you are uncomfortable. When I was in college I was that way. This was in the late 70's and I just toughed it out. I know I felt like I didnt' want to feel that way again. I go out with a bottle of Xanax for help if I have to. Might be an idea. If you don't have any relief in a month or so I would talk to the doc. Hope you feel better Mark ems654321 <esheatx80@...> wrote: I was starting to have problems leaving the house.
