Stopping Lexapro after 1 month

Hello,

I have been taking Lexapro for one month. I started at 2.5, which I

took for almost three weeks. Then I took 5.0 for about 8 days. I was

nauseated when I started on the 2.5, but it only lasted a week and

wasn't that bad. When I started the 5.0 the nausea came back pretty

bad and I was eating very little. I waited because I thought it

would go away like the first time. However, it has gotten much worse

and I am losing weight from not eating. I talked with my

psychiatrist on Thursday, and he told me to go back to 2.5, so I did.

Thursday and Friday I only took 2.5 (today is Saturday, I take it at

night). The nausea is getting worse (it also makes me dizzy, but

it's not too bad). I want to go off of it altogether. My

psychiatrist is gone for a week and I don't know what to do. I am

worried I might have withdrawal symptoms if I don't keep taking the

2.5, but then again, I might not because I took it for such a short

time.

Can anybody help? Thank you, I know you're not official medical

help, just want to know what you think.

With your dr. out of town, I'd call your pharmacist, or any

pharmacist and ask your questions. Ask if there would be any danger

from stopping it after such a short time or maybe they will suggest

you taper off it.

It's too bad you had these side effects, I never had anything like

that happen, I started on 10 mg and just kept the dosage the same.

I think you are obsessing over very small quantities off lex over a very small

time period ........ are you taking it for anxiety, depression or both ??  It

can often make anxiety worse in the short term  -  I found it can take up to a

month or more to start to feel an improvement.

Nausea and lack of appetite can of course be a result of depression and

its often difficult to seperate this from genuine side effects of a drug.

If you do have a problem with lex then your doc will no doubt try you on

another ssri.

I am taking it for anxiety due to my daughter's diagnosis of breast

cancer. Even though she is finished with her chemo and radiation and

it looks like she's going to be okay, I've been very anxious and so

has she. I did not have any nausea before I started taking Lex, and

I have been very anxious for about six months now. From what I have

read, the side effects should go away in two or three weeks, but they

haven't. I did give it a month and took it faithfully. The

psychiatrist had wanted to get me up to 10 mg. Does the nausea and

dizzy feeling go away? The withdrawal reactions are scary. However,

I think maybe part of it is that people who successfully stop taking

it are not the ones who write to a forum like this....

I took another SSRI a long time ago (maybe 15 years ago) when our

house was broken into (long story). I took it for a couple of

months, I think it was Zoloft, and I also had a bad reaction to it,

though I can't remember now what it was. I think it made me dizzy.

So I stopped taking it. I don't remember having a problem stopping

it.

Thanks.
